Thank you for taking the trouble. I was hoping to come up with a good reason for the anomaly, but it really doesn't look much like a geological fault line, does it?

A-Ha! some of the textures in povray planets 1.1 are actually from Famous Planets and those were not originally cube-maps. I wouldn't be surprised if they have seams.

BTW, gal-1-Lave.png is not 512x3072. It's 256x1536.

Indeed, all images are 512x3072 in v1.0. Still some seams are visible on Lave at the very close range, but they are hardly noticeable.
Texture resolution in v1.1 varies from 256x1536 to 1024x6144.
