To put this thread back on topic, one from the archive...
It's beautiful (though not far off Oorotica).
How is the Ovum Deus generated? It's not a wormhole..?

That explosion is all that remains of HIMS Thunder Child, having just been atomised by the Annihilator. The exchange of fire between the two ships was awesome to watch! You can just make out her final salvo of missiles. Futile, of course!

Oorotica? <chuckles> We do so like a big bang!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Oh dear! Your eyesight must be almost as bad as Cody's...

Can't they fabricate decent monocles and lorgnettes over there in Norway?

Apparently, they're fabricating wine on the slopes of Sognefjord.

A monocle might be my thing, I hadn't considered that. Though I suspect it shapes one's face into a permanent squint.
I should get rubber band goggles, so I can remember to wear them. I'm sure we can make those.

Those are merely pioneering frost-resistant grapes paving the way for a globally warmed future. But the apples there are amazing due to the midnight sun, so one day you won't snicker at Norwegian wine.

Ahh... memories of Norway! Lapskaus, moonshine in black coffee, the scenery, the people - a beautiful country!

Seems like you roughed it with the indigenous folk. Gnawing cured venison by the fire and salmon fishing with your bare hands?
Me, I've had tea in Kent.

<grins> I found Kristiansand to be quite civilised, as it happens - as were Moss and Stavanger.
As for Kent - if I walk to the end of my road, I can see Kent across the estuary.

Anyway, back on topic, another from the archive...

I'm starting to see prompts to go Premium on Postimage - hope they're not going to do a Photofucket, and slip behind a paywall.

Oh, you didn't make it to the Wild North then. Just the places where they talk funny :wink: (OK, not Moss)

No watermark yet. But an ominous image.
It ought to be mandatory to explain the OXPs at work (if possible) when one shares stunning pics.

I had planned on heading up North, but the couple I knew in Tromsø were down in Oslo for a few months. I was staying with a GF in Oslo, so we had a get together there instead. It was late autumn too, so perhaps 'twas just as well.

As for which OXPs, pretty much what I use now: a Griff Ico station, a Cheyd nav buoy, a core planet (I think - if not, Povray), a mix of Keeper Sky and Zygo Sky, plus star_count_multiplier = 56; sun_distance_multiplier = 5; and ambient_level = 0.15;

Maybe so, the later the autumn the less fun.

The "mix" concept is interesting. I haven't played around any with my stars, but your result undeniably looks very good. Another for my list.

I thought that tea in Devon was the one to go for. Although both Betty's in Harrogate and the Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow deserve mention.

By the way, I came across a mention of how after the big freeze of c.1400, England could no longer grow its own wine. And that during the big freeze we had to import wine via Kent because the Thames froze over and the continental wines could no longer be brought in direct to London.

Are there any records of growing wine in Norway before 1400?

If you wanted a similar "lights down" look now, you'd have to tweak oolite-default-shader.fragment thusly:

Code: Select all

#define MULTIPLIER_LIGHTSRCRADIANCE	2.0
#define MULITPLIER_EXPOSURE		1.0

No I’m fairly certain not, but few of those guys were into writing. Fermenting honey was easier anyway. They must have had some exposure though since they named the north american shore «wineland».
My light Kent remark was just to demonstrate how little substantial experience I have from the UK, just relatively few visits to London except that one trip to Kent. Many of us do get quite exposed to UK culture without going there though.
