Odd things I've seen

Greetings

I've seen several odd/interesting things in the OO universe

1) A police viper flying in a perfect circle. I watched it for some time. It did not stop until I scooped up a cargo can near it. Then it just flew away. It was a can of food. He was guarding the food?

2) While mining I found a white radar map item that turned out to be a cobra III just floating there. ID did not reveal any info for it either. I watched it for some time. eventually I blasted it. A ghoast ship? A flying Dutchman?

3) I recieved a comm message once while inside the station. It was a call for help. I launched but could not find the boa that needed help around the station. I've never recieved a com inside a station before or since.

That one I've also several times seen before with oolite 1.70. But on examining further it had a role of splinter. I also blasted them. When they look like splinters they must expect to end like one.

Welcome, commander, to The Friendliest Boards This Side Of Riedquat!

Strange things indeed, and they give taste to life...
RL has such stories: I've heard that in XIX century Imperial Brazil, the Emperor told a soldier to hold his seat on the park while he left briefly, but was diverted by other matters and forgot all about it.

You guys know the military, right? When the sergeant went looking for the soldier, he obediently reported His Imperial Majesty's order, and was relieved. This went on well into the republican XX century before it was found out by someone with good sense enough to revoke the order to guard the Emperor's empty park seat...

The British army was posting someone to guard the Duke of Wellington's horse well over a century after the horse, and the Duke, were dead... alternatively it could be that the cargo cannister was full of doughnuts.

This sounds like it could be related to this bug: -

Sounds like the same thing, but in reverse - if you get what I mean.

This one 'may' be related to this: -

It seems similar - getting unusual messages whilst docked.

I don't know if these are related to your bugs, but I'm just trying to help those who know better than I!

I don't think it's a bug -- I think it's just a Cobra III who got attacked by someone, and who ejected, but his ship didn't blow up. It's just a dead ship. That's one of the greatest thing about Oolite -- all sorts of stuff happens all over the place without the player being involved!

It's not the same. I got the comm window. Like I had pushed the ~ key (but I didn't). It opened up on it's own. I saw the time-tunnel for docking and then the comm window opened up. I had used the Shift-D to dock that time. I was nowhere near the ~ key.

The comm message is normal. And the missing boa is also quite normal.

When you leave a station, the in-game clock advances by 10 minutes. Even if the ship in distress isn't destroyed in the meantime, often the delay will be enough to put the ship in question out of scanner range...
