@selezen

I'm making a lave texture based on your Lave-map right now. Do you mind that I use your map as a guideline?

Here it is.
I post a screen shot how it looks in the screen shot thread.

Hey, no, of course I don't mind. Screenshot looks good and I like what you've done with the texture.

I do have a much higher resolution version if you want it.

Rough Guide work is ace folks and am enjoying reading the contributions so far. A little disappointed that Zaonce hasn't been mentioned yet. I mean, who hasn't been there? Sure it's a little tedious, but the sights! The sounds! The fact that if you'd followed some old advice you would have made your first trade stop there (on the way to the more exhuberent Isinior). Zaonce is also the system that has the dozens of Eagle gathered around the witchpoint (if you have the appropriate OXP installed).

I think Diso needs a write up to - even if it's just to mention that it sounds a bit like Disco.

Thanks, Gareth3377, glad you like it so far. Feel free to put in a contribution! Doesn't have to be a planet description: ship reviews would be good too. Actually Zaonce is on my to-do list...

Make sure it's kind words about Zaonce though. As I said, first trading experience and all that...

Don't know how anybody else feels about this, but upon reading an Earth based rough guide I notice that there's a lot of trivial stuff, which I think our Rough Guide could benefit from.

For example (and stealing ideas from the original manual Natch.) you could refer to basics such as:

Currency
The standard galactic currency is the credit and is accepted throughout all Galcop registered planets. All purchases (equipment, transport, consumables, stock etc.) will be conducted in credits [See Galcop Directive 3123-3127 for further details].
Some planets may trade with currency other than the credit. Be warned that this done at the trader's discretion.

Communications
Most communications are conducted via the Holo-fac facility and all space faring vessels are equiped with this communications unit. As long as you have a name, home planet and valid ID reference code for the person you wish to contact the Holo-fac facility can be used for an unlimited time with no cost to the user. [For further details of how GalComm can provide this service at no charge to you then it is advisable to read the GalComm enquiry of 3002]

What to do in an Emergency
It is vital that you ensure that your newly purchased vessle comes with a REMLOK mask. All dealerships in space faring vessels a required by GalCop law to provide one AT NO EXTRA COST [GalCop Directive 420].
The Remlok mask is essentail for anybody travelling through space.
Should you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being stranded in the hard vacuum without a ship and space suit then the Remlok mask is essential. Protecting your vital organs the Remlok device shields you from the void by InsPlas plasFibre coating. The advanced communications devices secured within the visiplate broadcast SOS signals through 40 channels, shifting wavelength within each channel four times a second.

Add it to the guide if you wish.

Hmmm... I'll see what happens with regard to Zaonce... I quite like the idea of introducing some of the Ooniverse's moral compromises relatively early. There's the positive, that it's safe and easy to trade with; so there might be some negatives there too...

I like your bottom-line basics, though -- well worth including!

Hey, that's Me!! And the Eagle Mk2 OXP!

And if you rename a plist file in the scripts folder of the original Imperial Courier OXP you get a bunch of them. And if you rename a plist file in the scripts folder of the Capisastra OXP you get a bunch of them as well!!

Zaonce is a hive of scum and villiany!

very naughty since Zaonce is bound the be one of Green Jamesons fly through systems while his ass is still made of paper.

reminds me when i recently(a month ago), blew up some newbie in an online game, i was/am lvl 19(20 is highest) he was lvl 1, i had to goto newbie terrory to sell something, he saw me, thought ohh big monster ship, and kept peppering his gun at me... finally i had enough pressed fire, Whoosh, he was gone...

Afterwards he was like i was attacked by some Frame thing... in the global chat... lol..

just like Young jameson will be, if he has those OXPs installed... ;-)

Zaonce is not a hive of scum and villiany! It is a very respectable system with lots to offer (this year it's hosting the Rugby Galactic Cup competition) :)

Now that I like :D

Some more (useless) information for the Rough Guide (in no particular order)

Media
Due to restrictions in ship to ship communications (see DeLaney Vs Galcop 3001 and Fotherham Vs Galcop 3004 for further details) most communications are done via bulletin board system.

Occasional news items may be broadcast direct to the ship, but large scale galactic news is reduced due to bandwith proximities and com regulations.

It is advisable, therefore, that all travellers and star pilots who wish to communicate with each other do via the BBS.

Sports and Entertainments
In a universe as diverse as ours a full range of sports and entertainments would take up several thousand volumes. However, there are some interesting diversions that are worth noting.

Firstly, Zero-G hockey, the galactic sport is currently enjoying it's 150th Galactic championship. Here, the top 32 systems "battle" it out to see who can lift the coveted Galactic Cup. Systems have to enter a "world" team (made up of the best players in their system) for qualification.

This prestigious tournament, held every four years, is the number one event and this year, Zaonce have qualified for the first time in over 70 years.

Zero-G has a long and fascinating history and it is well worth checking out Zero-G: The Definitive Guide - Past, Present and Future 44th Edition, Published by Trantor House, Lave

As well as Zero-G hockey there are literally hundreds of sports available to watch and participate in. Of particular note is the growth of rugby. Once this was a popular sport on old Earth but had declined to the point of extinction. Now, a consortium of businessmen (names, unfortunately, withheld from publication) are pumping millions of credits into this ancient sport. In just a few short years this sport has grown in popularity. If you get a chance attend a game and witness one of the sports of yesteryear.

As well as sports there are a variety of outposts you can visit and relax in. In some systems you'll find the Hoopy Casinos. Once regarded as a bit of harmless fun, now they are a multi-billion credit industry and the premium outlet for all your gambling needs.

Planetside
One of the most frequent questions a star pilot or traveller asks is why can't I land on planets?. The answer to this is quite simple. Because you are not allowed to. In reality though the reasons are varied and complex, though Galcop show signs of relaxing their attitude to planetside visits through the deployment of shuttlecraft. Never attempt to take your own vessle into a planet's atmosphere. The police are allowed to use deadly force and will.

Should you wish to visit a planet you must first obtain a visa from the appropriate authorities on the space station and rent a shuttle craft. These can be quite expensive and charges are ususally applied on a daily basis. Never attempt to trade with a planet's inhabitants whether they be your species or not. Onworld trade is strictly forbidden and drastic measures will be take (pilot's license revoked, 35 year prison sentence minimum).

As stated above, the laws are starting to be relaxed and there are a few reports of some systems upgrading their basic starports. Be advised though that these are rumours and despite some protests from various environmentalist groups Galcop have not announced anything official regarding this matter.

Food and Drink
In a galaxy as diverse and varied as ours it is next to impossible to list all the delightful dishes and drinks you may come across. However, the Lavian Tree Grub and Lavian Chardonnay come highly recommended. With regards to the Lavian wine always ensure that you ask for white chardonnay as opposed to the red variety. These two drinks are poles apart! Other foods to lookout for is Thrumpberry flavouring and deep fried trumble (The Ontiat system is probably the best for BBQ trumble - try it for yourself).

Must stop - again feel free to use. Typos are intentional!!! Suggestions welcome! :D

Cheers![/i]

Most worlds in Galcop already have BASIC starports - they do, after all, need somewhere for shuttles and cargo ships to land. maybe the rumour should be that some worlds are allegedly "upgrading" thier starports. There could be some protests from nearby residents (Heathrow anyone?) about the increased noise pollution, safety, so on. Heh.
Tionisla Terminal 5 was opened today, and no luggage was processed due to a fault with the handling systems. A spokesman was heard to say 'Bugger off'.
