New player, can't buy!

Hi there, I am totally new to oolite but I am a seasoned computer gamer. I have read through the First Flight but when I came to sell my first set of wares it seemed that I had managed to not buy them successfully! Anyway, I decided to simply start from the beginning as I was only a few minutes into the game and when I go to buy the liquour/wine I can see that I can afford 3t leaving me with 19 credits change but when I hit return I hear a beep and it refuses to sell to me! I should have space for 20t and I have enough credits, I've never run the game before or anything, just downloaded the most recent version. Any ideas?
