Hello again,
What OXP's would ya'll recommend for v1.65? I'll probably download v1.7 one of these days but in the meantime...

Hi Commander Q! Personally I'd go for
  • Commies
  • Dictatorships
  • Your Ad Here
all of which add extra trading options (various in-system stations and the ever-handy Convenience Stores)
  • Old Ships
  • New Ships
  • Wolfwood's Variants
all add a good range of interesting new ships, none of them über (although you want to watch out for Cats and Iguanas, if you're not equipped with an iron ass)
  • Fuel Tank
  • Ore Processor
add a couple of handy ship upgrades, too.

All these work fine on 1.68 and I don't know of any reason why they wouldn't work on 1.65. Missions etc. would depend on what galaxy you're in and how many kills you have.

There's always:
  • Black Monks
  • HOopy Casinos
If you're strapped for cash and don't mind taking a risk....

I'm still fairly new at this, but I've been adding OXPs to my 1.65; and I currently have:

Commies.oxp
CustSounds.oxp
externalviews.oxp (which doesn't work with my current ship the Tiger nor my previous ship the Python Class Cruiser, but did work with the Cobra Mark III and the Imperial Cruiser)
Fuel Tank v2.1.oxp
hOopyCasino
impcourier2.oxp
longway.oxp
outrider.oxp
pcc.oxp
Rock_Hermit_Locator1.1.oxp
supercobra.oxp
taranis.oxp
tiger.oxp
UPS-courier v1.2.3.oxp

I also planning on adding Dictatorships.oxp and some of the other missions ones when I get my reputation up.

One important thought: I wouldn't add the Imperial Courier, Super Cobra, or Tiger until you are used to fighting off those evil Pirate types. As soon as I installed them, I was getting attacked by Imperial Cruisers and Tigers in every Anarchy system.

My Ship upgrade path was the Cobra Mark III ---> Remorse of Conscience (since removed) ----> Python Class Cruiser -----> then I added the Super Cobra, ImpCourier and Tiger at the same time. But, by that point I had a beefed up PCC, and was able to hold my own until I could afford to buy a Tiger. I also tried the Imperial Cruiser but I didn't like it as much as the Tiger. 100TC is nice, but I found that running platinum and Gems doesn't take that much cargo space. And, the Tiger has like 6 or 7 Missle slots.

One other thought:

the Your Ad Here OXP looked like fun...but it stalled out my game a little bit, every time I hypered to a new location or left a Station, it would freeze for two or three seconds. When I removed the OXP (and all of its sub-module oxps) my game ran much better. I have a quad core Mac Pro with 5GB of RAM and a 512MB ATI 1900XT vid card. I didn't think anything would slow me down that much; but that OXP did. So it might be something to think about.

I like:
Pirate Coves
Trident Down
UPS
Assassins
Fuel Tank
Cargo Wrecks
Deposed
The civil war one with the text adventure bit in the middle...?

(I think they all work with 1.65, they do with 1.68)

I tend not to go for the ship OXPs.

And definetly the new version (3.45) of asteroid storm that adds to the game a first great mission for new commanders and also increase the variety of asteroids in the game

The first OXP's I would start with would be all the graphics and sounds OXP's and also the planet textures patch, and then think about missions etc. I'd also add the Griff Krait OXP, what a stunningly beautiful ship that is.

The reason that the oxp has been split up into separate folders with sets of 50 ads since v.3 is, that you can have as few or many of the ad sets installed at any one time as your machine can handle (the basic folder is only a very short script to make the convenience stations appear, when set folders are installed).
