My machine's graphics card only supports OpenGL 1.4 so I'm unable to use the shader effects.

I'm just curious as to how many people can actually benefit from the shader effect code.

I don't know
I've got a Macbook Pro with 12MB Radeon X1600. I assume it does support it as it's supposed to be a pretty decent chipset for a laptop.

All Intel Macs should support shaders. If the option is available in the game’s settings in version 1.70, they are supported.

Haven't got a clue, It's got an intel 3.0G duel processor, Radeon X1300 series + secondary, and Realtek 5.1 audio thingy.

If the option shader effects under Game Options is enabled then your video card is ok with shaders

If you really want to know exactly what your video chip can manage and not manage, try out OpenGL Extensions Viewer.

Best wishes,

I've decided to buy myself a new graphics card, does anyone have any experience good or bad of the nVidia GeForce 8600GT 256MB?

Or could you recommend another PCIe x16 graphics card for around the £100.00 mark.
