In regards to my oxp problems, I was thinking along the following lines:

Is someone building an all-inclusive oxp that includes all of the (fixed) oxps that work under 1.65? You know, a single oxp that contains all of your old favorites in 99.99% bug-free form, so you can just put a single oxp file in your addons directory? I think this would be a good idea for 1.65, seeing as 1.65 is *the* stable mass-release version, and as it's intended for the masses, I think a similar mass-release all-inclusive "gold" version single-file oxp that containts (almost) all of the common (working) oxps in a single file would make it easy for Joe Sixpack to get in on a lot of the fun the rest of us tweakers are having without him (or her) having to tweak.

Imagine.... just drop a single OXP file into your addons directory to add all the fun ships and missions mentioned on the wiki. Heck, it could even come bundled with "Oolite v1.65 Gold Edition". 8)

Two OXPs: a "NoOvice Megapack" and a "SeasoOned Overkill". You don't want the noobs to run away after meeting a few Renegades or a pack of Ratters...
Then again, how do you remove the ones you really don't like?

Alas, I can find neither -- Google returns no results for either. Pray tell, where can they be had? (And thank you for your courteous, prompt response, good captain.)

Oosat1 and Oosat2 are now no longer updated, but all OXPs are now on this page of the wiki:-

If you click the download link here, it'll take you to the latest version of each OXP. There are lot of new stuff to dig into!

Of course you can find neither, because both are just ideas of Maegil, with which he extends your suggestion.

By the way, I'm not sure about your suggestion. As you see on your machine, running with simply all OXPs can slow performance down quite drastically. And I think that's not the impression we want to give to Joe Sixpack: slow gameplay - many pauses - no good.

The question "What are the essential OXPs, the must-haves?" is among the most frequently discussed here. And every time there is only one real answer to this question: It depends. It depends on your personal taste and style of gameplay. So we will always only get very personal suggestions by a couple of players, but I don't think we could come up with one canonical list for "The Golden OXP Pack" or "The definitive OXP Collection". I myself for instance would always strongly oppose the inclusion of any StarWars- or StarTrek ships into such a collection, because for my personal taste these ships simply don't belong into the Ooniverse as we know it.

So I think there is no way (not even a long way) around choosing the OXPs you like yourself. Fortunately we have the excellent wiki OXP-page as a hub to (almost) all OXPs ever created, so you and any player who is interested can read through the short descriptions provided there and then decide whether to download and install this or that OXP, or not. And as far as Joe Sixpack is concerned, there is nothing wrong with playing "basic" Oolite without any OXPs. It's a fine game as it is!

Granted, granted.... Well, how about a nice well-rounded resource-lite basic oxp that includes most of the more common oxps for Joe Sixpack that won't slow his machine down? Let's see, now I start asking which oxps that list would include.

Well, Murgh's X-Ships, Aegidian's Specials, a couple of Arexehack's, etc. Mostly, just increase the number and variety of ship types and include a couple of token things that are referenced on the Oolite Wiki, like maybe the Tionisla Orbital Graveyard (which is actually a resource hog, nevermind).

For example, commies.oxp and anarchies.oxp -- do those thrash system resources? I can tell the Black Monks give you a mild system hit. I like the Eagle Mk II, but a lot of noobies would be turned off by the squadron of, what, twenty of them hanging out at the Witchpoint to Zaonce (I'd forgotten about that until stumbling on them last night).

Tiranis doesn't seem to cause problems, but it's only got that one mission, and the HoOpy Casinos seem okay (as do the Deep Space Dredgers), but, again, these are flavors that are not essential to the game.

So, let's see, what oxps should be included in the oxp I will tentativly label (and try compiling):

Again, we would get (almost) as much collections as players are around. I myself for instance have only a limited interest in more ship varieties, so I have installed none of the ship OXPs mentioned by you here, and I don't miss them.

On the other hand: Thanks for including Anarchies.oxp to your small list. Makes me proud (and one day the real version, much better than the teaser which is v0.1, will be published. Promised!). :D

Merging oxps

How is this actually done? Are just the folders merged? If there was a "How-To" in a FAQ somewhere everyone could create their own fitting aaallinterestingoxps.oxp for themselves?!

Yes, that would be the basic idea. And I hope you don't need a how-to in order to do this.
