Thanks to a tip from Ahruman about reCAPTCHA, I now have seen a captcha system that I find acceptable.

So I've re-enabled new signups (i.e. you don't have to PM me any more) on wiki.alioth.net . Hopefully, it'll keep spammers out but let legitimate people create new accounts. PM me if there's any problems.

You could always use the 'Are you human?' radio buttons Selezen uses on his webcomic site.....

even the most simple CAPTCHA will defeat most spambots. The simplest I've seen simply says 'Type hello in the box below' and then checks that the textbox contains 'hello' to validate it.

could something like this be used in the alioth bbs?
