Another noob!

Hi All

Been lurking around here for a bit so I thought I should say Hi!

Found oolite a few months back and I must say I was very pleased to find my favorite game from my Amstrad CPC/Atari ST days alive and well and all souped up. :D

I've notched up a fair few fight hours now, steadily adding more and more OXPs as I go (which are all fantastic BTW).

Just today I've saved a space station from impending asteroid doom, visited the Tionisla orbital graveyard and done a dodgy deal with some hacker dudes to clear my less than perfect legal record. Cool!

Got a couple of questions (as all noobs do  ).

1. I'm running 1.65 on my mac at the moment which is great. I tried 1.69 but I think I must have had something set wrong as Left/Right wasn't controlling my ships roll anymore, but instead was a kind of rudder motion. Any ideas how to switch it back?

2. During my exploits today some rather strange things happened. After dropping out of which-space one time, I looked at my radar to see about 16 blips spreading out from a single point. I turned to see what these were and saw a whole load of pythons and geckos, all with very sexy tiger stripes, fanning out in pretty star-burst type effect. Looked cool. Of course they soon took a dislike to me. Press space commander.

The same thing happened again a little while later dropping out of which-space at Zanonce, except this time it was 16 eagle mkIIs waiting to greet me. My newly acquired energy bomb put the wind up them, but I was wondering, which OXP is doing that and is there a logical reason for it or is something odd happening? (not that I mind, I think it's quite fun).

Anyway, great job you're all doing here guys! :D

I'm off on a wild constrictor chase (I just hope he isn't as much of a pain to track down as I remember him being back in the day  ).

I believe the keyconfig.plist (do a search or whatever you Mac users have) has the means for remapping keyboard functions.

Sounds familiar, can't quite place it though.....

Ah, now this is the Eagle Mark II oxp (eagle2.oxp), which adds four player Eagle Mark II fighters to the Ooniverse as well as a horde of beligerent Eagle Mk II test pilots in Seldar Shipyards' test ranges at Zaonce. Unfortunately, these pilots are notoriously trigger-happy and will cheerfully pounce on any ship witching in.

Cheers guys! :D

A horde of beligerent Eagle Mk II test pilots eh?! Cool. They'll make for good target practice, hehe.

I'll have a look at the keyconfig.plist on 1.69. I transfered my OXPs over but maybe I fogot that. Thanks!

And if anyone knows what the tiger stripped pythons and geckos were all about, I'd love to know. Troube is, I can't quite remember where it happend, somewhere slightly left of centre in galaxy 1 I think..

Oh, and if I had to choose a flavour Captain Hesperus I guess I'd be Leestiian evil juice.

Nice to hear that somebody uses Anarchies.oxp  !

In between 1.65 and 1.69 yaw-movement was introduced and placed to the keys that formerly controlled rolling. So indeed you should edit the keycontrol-plist in the 1.69-addons-folder to return to your old configuration and then place the yawing to some suitable unused keys. Simply take the values of key_yaw_left and key_yaw_right and assign them to key_roll_left and key_roll_right. Then of course you have to find new values for key_yaw_left and key_yaw_right, or you will roll and yaw at the same time. (Could be fun, though, a little bit like in a roller coaster  .)

…if you were using a non-standard keyboard layout. I’m not that stupid. ;-)

BTW, no-one has yet submitted an updated BBC key config file without conflict, such as could usefully be included with distributions. Hint, hint.

Thanks guys. I managed to figure it out myself in the end the other day, by changing the original keyconfig file. Set the keys to classic BBC keys with the additional rudder controls on the cursor keys.

So I guess that means I have an updated BBC key config file if you want it Ahruman. :D

Next thing I'm gonna try and figure out is how to get the fuel tank oxp working again in 1.70, cos I need that (I saw a thread on it somewhere  ).

When I'm right the version on the wiki is recently updated to work also under 1.70.

Be aware that there is still a bug with Fuel Tank. Because its role set contains the role "alloy", sometimes it is generated instead of debris when a ship explodes. As a result, its AI locates the player and awards fuel.
