How to remove offender status?

HI, I'm new to oolite, and unfortuneately, I'm an offender for dealing narcotics. (bought some narcotics for 1.1 credits each, and sold them for like 100ish each, was very profitable)
Now that I'm an offender, many people seem to enjoy ganging up on me, leaving me no hope for survival.
How can I pay off my offenses?
Thanks.

Hi, Kernel! First of all welcome to the boards, and of course to this great game!
So, you are an Offender? Perhaps I should aim my sword at you instead of helping you out? Perhaps I'll be paid a bounty?
No, just kidding. It happens to all of us at a time. (Ask
Captain_Hesperus if you don't believe me!
)
Anyway, don't panic! Yes, you have made a mistake, and so now you're feeling the results. Nobody seems to like you. But, you know, on the other hand there are much mor frightening guys than you out there. So the memories of your offence will wane eventually.
In fact, you just have to wait a little bit. With every jump into another system your offence will become more and more distant, and after a couple of jumps nobody cares anymore and you will be "Clean" again.
By the way: If you install
Anarchies.oxp it will become much harder to get rid of a bad legal rating (read: it'll take more time), but on the other hand this OXP offers a couple of (more or less expensive) new ways to clear your legal status. Try it out!

Using your escape pod cleans your status immediately, but it's a bit of a cheat really, and you'll lose any cargo you had, and have to replace the escape pod.

...and with Anarchies.oxp it's not possible anymore!

You can also jump forward to a new galaxy with a Galactic Hyperdrive, leaving all record of your heinous crimes behind you, emerging into a new galoactic sector as fresh and as pure as the driven snow... Of course, it will set you back 5000Cr!

Or you could cheat and adjust the savefile......
<_<
>_>
....Not that I would
ever consider doing that.

I have never considered it, only because I'd probably bugger it up! as they say, a little knowledge is dangerous and if you don't really know what you are doing..........

uh-huh. sure. you probably set yours as criminal as you could set it, just to get the biggest reward possible posted for yourself. tell me when you figure out how to cash in on that, i'd like to hear. ;D

Does this also apply to fugitive status?

Yes. Basically the more you do wrong the more your 'naughtiness' acore goes up. Above a certain level you're rated as an 'offender', higher still and it goes to 'fugitive'.
Every jump you makes reduces your 'naughtiness' a bit.
If you blow up a naval base and a load of ships around it then you may need a dozen jumps ot get back to clean. a simple offender rating for narcotic dealing will only take a couple of jumps. Sometimes you get asked to pay a fine (100Cr or so) when you dock and I think that clears it too.

With anarchies.oxp shooting up (other) offenders an fugitives also drops your baddie rating.

Elite A had a charming little addition to the legal status. If you were really naughty, you were still labelled as "Fugitive", but had achieved "most wanted" status and the police would start launching from the station to attack you, even if they hadn't seen you doing anything naughty.

I like that addition. Makes sense.
