Are Trumbles a mission?

A few times I've been asked if I want to buy a Trumble. The sales cat seems to be a shady character. Are Trumbles a mission worth taking on or is the cat trying to con me out of my hard stolen creds?

Non-spoiler:

Trumbles were part of the original Elite (not the Beeb version, but IIRC, Commodore)

it's a ....

well let's say it's a rite of passage...

I guess that depends on whether it's the built-in Trumble-sell or the one A_H has been busy with recently, although I don't know if the latter has been released already.

Anyway, if the offer seems good to you, take it!

And could you really have objections against a neat, furry friend? :)

TRUMBLE (R) by Gen-Fun!

* you can wear Trumble as a hat!

* you can comb her beautifull hair!

* Trumble will soothe you with her cute purrs of affection.

* it will clean your ships of edible scraps for free. (also works on stow-aways)

* Space induced dementia (SID) is reported to be 10% less likely in trumble owners.

-my current project has nothing todo with selling trumbles to the player.
rather the inverse. It expands on the trumble experience.
In stead of only cluttering your cabin with random bits of roaming fur, there will be ways to interact with and exploit your investment.

-the get_hesperus.oxp may very likely add trumble offers,
by Hesperus and also by resetting the oolite-trumble trigger.
however this will basically be a character-hunt with lots of story and stuff.

both projects are interrelated though and I may eventually merge them into a single OXP.
Neither are released as yet, but much of the code can be inspected on the respective furom-topics.

It depends also on whitch Oolite version you are using. In version 1.69.1 there is a bug that lets oolite crash on witchspace jumping with a trumble on board. At least with a mac computer. I tested it dozens of times with a new commander. Ahruman already removed the bug for the next release. So when you use 1.69.1, deny the offer until version 1.70 arrives.

Ah, you found the trigger. With old saved files you could give trumbles a second time to the player on a simple way but not with saved files of newer oolite versions. I found this out the hard way. In testing it worked the first time with an old save file but later on it didn't work anymore. The current ups-courier.oxp v1.1.3 has a bug on this point that it says you get the trumbles but you aren't actually not getting anything. It is fixed now but I will only update it until 1.70 is out because of the possible trumble crashes with 1.69.1

not true for the PC version, I have been happilly jumping around carrying a full load of trumbles for what seems like ages now.
That is a commander created in v1.69.1 PC.

with the trigger I mean the scripted conditions + set/reset missionvariable TRUMBLE_BOUGHT

What is the problem you are facing with UPS?
-I considder myself an expert on trumbles by now. ;)

Giles' X-ships ... or the specials. this contains the cilindrical barrel containing trumbles.

Expect more trumble containers in future though. mwahahahaha!

I was hoping to somehow enable the player to eject trumble infested containers that disintegrate into a swarm of trumbes to confound missiles....but this is still a dream.

the exploding containers will become a reality though...in one form or another.

Trumbles are SO WORTH IT!!!!
The rewards for keeping, caring for, and especially, feeding them far exceeds any negative comments other posters may make.

That soft and fluffy fur
That cute and friendly expression
That odd and slightly disturbing oversized eye
That loving, soothing chirping <proot>
IT's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo worth Cr30.

Trumbles, the gift that keep giving.
And giving
And giving
And giving......

Well, what is so good about Trumbles? They eat my food, multiple and block my screen when I fight a life and death battle with some pirates. If you want it, I can give all to you now. I have four now.

Sounds like time is nearing where you'll need some BBQ-sauce. :D
