Two suggestions here...

Hi guys.
Ok here goes.
1. Reverse.
If you get too close to an object and you want to back off a bit you have to turn around then fly away a bit from the object.
So how about a reverse where you simply press whatever key you use to slow down till you come to a full stop, then if you want to reverse you press the same key again to make yourself go back at a slow speed.
2. Cancel hyperspace jump.
It would be good to have an option to be able to cancel a hyperspace jump, maybe if you have a system locked in and you press H by mistake or when you do go to make a jump but then change your mind before the 15 second countdown ends.

Will edit post when I remember what it was lol.
Considering the average age of posters on this board (TGHC's age does positively skew the mean somewhat!!), senility is entirely understandable. I think.
I can't really remember just now....

This would require potentially extensive alterations to the way Oolite works. It would also violate our/my policy of not lumping in lots of gameplay changes.

You can already do this.

Press H whilst its counting down to abort the jump.

The first request was available in the arc-elite IIRC, to provide some legitimacy to the idea.
It was called retro-booster and could be used like the fuelinjector to move backwards at high speed.
This was a onetime use item, which was removed when the available fuel was expended.
(hearsay, as I never had the honour to play this version nor the stamina to play it trough an emulator)
An oolite-esque solution could be to create an oxp that introduces an upgrade for the FI, enabling a reverse boost.

Wasn't in ArcElite. I've heard of some other versions having retro rockets, but I don't know exactly what they did.

They were in Xelite, but I never seemed to get them to work.
I guess a viffing manouvre could be used to pretty good effect though, Harrier jumpjets doing this were lethal during the Falklands war!
We're all Topguns here anyway aren't we?

Retro Rockets existed in Atari and Amiga versions. (
See this thread.) And they were completely useless for the suggestion made here. Their purpose was to save your life by getting you out of a battle-zone
fast and
far (so basically the same purpose that is now being served by the witchdrive fuel injectors). If you ignited them you were catapulted backwards by a
whole scanner diameter (= about 50 kilometers) in an instant. Not very useful for navigating backwards a bit. If you would use them e.g. in front of a station, you would be pulverized a second later, leaving an impressing impact crater on the planet's surface!
As far as I remember in the Atari version they had fuel for about four ignitions. After that they had to be replaced.
