Contrast between ships and space? Clarity

This may just be me, but I do wish that the ships were a little more clear and 'pronounced'.
Usually at range, but even sometimes close up I can only identify that the ships are even there by their tail plumes. I have tried the clear skies oxp but ofc this does not have any effect on the contrast of the actual ships and the background of space.

Does anyone else think this ?

Is there a mod to 'brighten' the ships up a little ?

Or change the colour of the background somewhat ?

You need to buy the scanner targeting enhancement, it identifies the ship you have targeted and it's status, check out the Wiki here

Give milhud or fighterhud a try.
They come with contrast enhancing gunsight optics.

They were both made for 1.65, so you'll have to tweak 'em to realign the backing images on the newer versions.

EDIT: You can try opening the planetinfo.plist in clearskies, and tweaking the ambient_level setting. 3 works well for me, but I wouldn't set it any further than 5 lest the ingame textures start looking a little fishy.

You may find that you need to adjust your video card settings. How you do it depends on the card and Operating System but increasing your gamma will make a huge difference. See this:

but you may have to go beyond the "perfect" adjustment.
