@A_H. Cos I didn't think of that! I'm not sure though how Oolite would react to a single object that was 60 Km long! And since Giles's ring were already done and worked, I decided to use them. Donno how good the racers AI would be for flying inside one big model as well.

@LB: No not a single track object. silly.

I am suggesting a visual means to obtain the coordinates for a good track, using simplified objects in wings3d. (plus that piramid to determine facing coordinate)

That would be a regular tetrahedron, then. Unless you mean a pyramid with a regular four-sided base, which would be a square pyramid or an irregular pentahedron. Not that it matters or anything. :-)

Anyway you are right: it doesnt matter.
One could use a single vertex, a pointy object is just easier to locate.

I'll throw together a small ships-oxp to get my generic racing adders and reduxed pretty paintjobs out there.
I'm not much for thinking up nice stats or balancing, so most will be fairly basic.

Real Life has meant I haven't done much on this OXP and am still fiddleding with the track. But I've downloaded A-H's new racers as well as the Doc's and I've an idea for making this a sort of open-ended mission. I'll only add the Track to one system in G1. When installed, wherever you are you get a news broadcast informing you that the 8 Galaxy Grad Prix has started and interested Commander should make there way to System X in G1.

Docking at Race Control registigers you as a competitor. At first only Adder Class is available, but winning races unlocks more classes. A win in Adder Class allows you to race in Sidewinder Class and so on.

After winning all the Classes on the Track Race, you are given the location of the Race Circuit in G2 (and a complementary Galactic Hyperdrive). You can then play the next Grand Prix in G2 (perhaps this time a race with a small number of rings, but with in a large asteroid field). If you go to the track without being qualified to race in the Galaxy 2 Formula, you can still practice, but won't be invited to race.
