Exploding station & kill count

First of all "Hello".
And now for my question(s).
I'm currently in Galaxy 2 where I've been hunting down the stolen Constrictor. About 5 seconds after launching from a station (can't remember the system) I switched to my rear view just in time to see the space station explode. I've no idea how or why it happened. What I did notice though, a few systems (and about 10 kills) later, after killing the Constrictor and docking at the local station, my kill count had jumped from 291 (competent) to 543 (dangerous). Is this a bug in the game, or is it part of the mission?
Any ideas anyone?

This has been mentioned several times on the forum but you get quite a lot of kills for killing the Constrictor, can't remember how many off the top of my head but it's definitely a great deal.
As for the station exploding, it happens. They're tough but not completely invincible.

It's 256 kills from the Constrictor.

Welcome to the boards, Dreamcatcher.
As U_B says, you gain 256 kills for the Constrictor.
As for the station 'exploding', some very large ships (the Ixian Battlecruiser from the ixian.oxp is a good example) are usually destroyed when they attempt to dock. This explosion, although not damaging to the station, can 'push' it away from the planet at speeds that even exceed the fastest ships' Torus drives. When they are pushed away, they take the Station's Aegis (the green 'S' in the bottom of your HUD). In situations like this, you have to hope that you either have a full fuel tank or a fuel scoop. When you jump back into the same system, the station will be back where it should be (as if nothing had happened).

I tried chasing one in a Benulobiweed Swift on Torus for over an hour. When it's pushed, it's *pushed*!

You don’t expect it to slow down, do you? It’s in space!(eleventyone)

I don't expect it to reach such speed from anything.
Such impartment of momentum would reduce the station to a smear of debris no matter how advanced the inertial dampening technology.
