Keyboard layout

I have another question I am wondering about. My Ubuntu keyboard layout is Swedish, and I have noticed that pressing the key where ` and \ sits on the US keyboard does not bring out the Comm log nor does it toggle the advanced compass modes. Neither does pressing the Swedish keycombinations required for those characters. Can I change a config file to get it to work, and if so, to what should I change the commands?
I appreciate any input.

Yes, you can change the keyconfig.plist file (which should be the config folder within your addons folder) with any text editor.
The keyconfig.plist is basically a list of names of key-commands, like 'key_roll_left', 'key_roll_right' and so on. So it's pretty much self-explaining. And then there is a number attached to each name, representing the key which is attached to that command.
You can change that number to your liking. The only thing you have to do is to find out which key has got which number on your keyboard. Change the numbers to the desired values and save the plist. There you are.

Thanks, I've found the file, but I am looking like crazy a place that tells me what keys correspond to what values. Is there any particular word I should google for that currently escapes me?

Okay. I couldn't get it set to the same keys as it's intended to but I've moved it to some other keys.
Thanks for the help!

I think you don't need to have it on the same keys. The best idea is to take keys that make sense on your keyboard layout. I am using a german keyboard layout and have changed quite a lot of the original keys, because e.g. on a german keyboard the '+' and '-' keys are not placed next to each other, so it doesn't make sense to use them for toggling something up and down or left and right. I had to find other keys that are neighbours to each other.
For the letters their keyboard value is the same as their ASCII-value, but for all other keys that doesn't need to be so. For me unfortunately the german Umlaute, which are placed very nicely on the keyboard and could be wonderful controls, refuse to be accessed correctly by their values, so I can't use them.

That seems like a good idea, and I placed those two keys in a comfortable place for me. However I do think I will keep the other keys as they are, since otherwise I would have to re-learn them, and I am lazy.
