Ubuntu question

Hi! I recently found Oolite and installed it from the repositories in Ubuntu (Feisty) and I am enjoying it immensely. I've only just started and currently am flying between planets in Galaxy 1 trading stuff. I still get hammered by any bunch of pirates I run into, so I try to stay clear of them.
Anyway, I have a question. To which directories do the files go? More specifically, if I wanted to add OXP's, where would I put them?

OXPs go in the AddOns folder.

AddOns
(Must be exactly like that case-wise).
If no AddOns folder exists already you'll need to create it in Oolite folder. (C:\Oolite) or whereever you put Oolite.

Thanks for the quick reply!
My problem is, I don't know where Oolite got installed!
I installed it through apt-get using sudo, if that helps.

Windows user I'm afraid. Isn't there an equiv of My Computer on Unix, where you can look to see where it lives? By Default on Windows Oolite is installed to Programe Files\Oolite. Suspect it'll be somewhere similar!

Under Linux, it appears to be your choice of AddOns in the same directory as the application, or ~/.Oolite/AddOns .

Okay, so I have one more question. I installed the custom sounds oxp, and the sounds is really choppy. I am assuming this has something to do with how Ubuntu processes its sound, but I am wondering if anyone knows if it can be improved upon.

I have no problem with sound when I play in Ubuntu - are you sure it isn't your sound card? Maybe the driver needs updating.

Not sure at all. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 with some built in soundcard that's most like not very good. Could I find drivers for linux for this, and how would I go about installing them?
Thanks again for the friendly help.

At the risk of sounding patronising, have you been to the
Ubuntu Forums yet? They might be able to help if you're having trouble with your sound card.
This thread might point you in the right direction.
Are you getting OK sound in other applications or just Oolite?

No worries.
I've been looking there, but it seems like other people -- like in that thread -- have problems getting sounds at all. Mine works fine, except in Oolite where it's very choppy.
Thanks anyway, though.
I'll ask there too.

Hmmm. If it works OK in applications other than Oolite, then I'm stumped
I use
MildAudio rather than custom sounds, with no problems. Maybe you should try that OXP and see what happens; might help trace the fault anyway.

I asked around at the Ubuntuforums and was pointed to the ubuntu guide section that talks about integrated intel cards. (Sorry can't post link as I'm too new here.)
That solved my problem, so if anyone else run into this, try it out.
Thanks for taking the time.
