Other galaxies - harder? Benefits?

I've just outfitted my ship with a galactic hyperdrive.
Now that I can - should I?
Are other galaxies harder? Do they provide any benefits or differences over Galaxy 1?

as far as I know the main difference is that there's different star systems there and I know in a couple of the galaxies there's star systems with 0.0 Light years distance between them (although you still have to have at least some fuel left to witchspace between them...for whatever reason) and I'm pretty sure I've seen one pair of them where one was industrial (poor with high tech level I think) and the other was agricultural (I think it was also poor but with low tech level)
also I know some OXP only affect specific galaxies (for example the thargon wars OXP affects all the galaxies except the first one) and I think some of the missions only occur in specific galaxies...but I'm not too familiar with the missions as I've not been playing all that long...

drdenim is right, the only substantial difference is that certain missions start and take place in different galaxies - see
here for information from the Wiki about the various missions but be aware of potential spoilers.

You might want to stay in G1 for a bit. Somebody will get it contact with you when you have a certain number of kills....
There are also quite a few missions in G1 that trigger at particular systems, so you might want to do these first before moving on. The Wiki Missions page does not give away the plot to the Missions. Its just a one line description of what the mission is about and where to go to trigger it. Most trigger in a particular Galaxy with a certain kill count. Some also need you to have completed other missions first. Some will only take place at a certain planet.

if it's the mission I think your refering to...I think I was contacted in galaxy 2...but I can't swear to that...
on a sidenote, when you get to galaxy 8 and warp to another galaxy, you loop back to galaxy one, correct?

Yeah that one will trigger in G1 or G2, but it might be a bit hard to know where to go if triggered in G2. And Yep you have to go all the way round the Galaxies up to 8 and then jump again to get back to G1. As things stand at the moment G1 has about 10 missions in it (including OXPs), G2 has about 6 (in one mission pack), G3 has 1, G4 has about 30 (including three OXP packs), G5 has 1, G7 has 21 (all in one OXP). None are in G6 or G8 yet. So you may want to do the missions in the Galaxy you are in (build up your Elite rating money & your ship between missions) before moving on, to avoid having to go all the way round the houses to get back to a lower numbed galaxy. The main reason for moving Galaxies is to do missions. However if you play with OXPs installed there are many that change systems to add more planets, bases and flavour to particular systems. Generally the easier missions are in the lower Galaxies. G1 has a lot of "noob" missions that don't need many kills and could be completed in a faily basic ship. OXPers tend to make tricky missions depended on kills and or being in a certain Galaxy, so you'll only get offered the easy ones if you have a weedy ship. This is to stop the young Jameson been blown away by some powerful opponent(s)!
Check the Powers and Organisations page on the Wiki here
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Powers ... anisations.
That'll give you some hints as to differences between the Galaxies. Much that is really going on in the Ooniverse is not revealed. This information is the sort of thing every commander will know by watching the News etc.
