Returning...

Well, I dunno if anyone will remember me, I've not been here in at least a year... some of the old soldiers might!
Thought I'd drop by, and saw so many great looking developments that I simply had to download it and see what it's like - up to 1.68 I see!
Anything I should know about? New controls? I saw something muttering about yaw, which confused me slightly..!
Lots of new shiny OXPs too, can't wait for it to finish downloading! My uni halls network is punishingly slow!

Hi lex, good to see you're still about!
Yep, as you can see, we've been fortunate enough to have people willing to pick up the traces from Giles and continue to develop Oolite.
The planet textures are particularly nice, and some of the newer models are quite stunning, particularly with the effects which are being introduced with the shaders now being made available.
There's a plethora of new missions and additional materials for the game, plus there are some really excellent stories to while away the hours when you aren't playing!!
Load up and have fun!!

Welcome back, I think I recall you being about when I joined a year ago!
Cheers,
Drew.

Hi Lex, welcome back.
Yaw is the ability for your ship to
turn to the left or right, instead of
rolling which is the standard movement. It can be quite useful once you get used to it.

Aww hells, I'd gotten used to pitching! Any way of changing it back?
Can't wait to try out some of these new flashy OXPs.

Whoops, not a clear enough explanation! It's in addition to the normal controls rather than instead of. With the new versions you can yaw using "," and "." as defaults.

Yeah, I found them. Doubt I'll be using them much though - especially not in combat, I've gotten too used to the old controls!
Couple of points: one - my energy bomb didn't seem to work - has this been withdrawn from the game? Two - what's this advanced navigational thingy? Three - what's the thingy that give you the little targetting reticule box around the person you're locked on to, and gives you an arrow when he goes off screen?
Sorry, my knowledge has gone down rather a lot! Nice to see people are keeping the flame alive!
Oh, lastly - what was the name of the OXP that had the really innovative textures, came out about a year ago... I forget the author dammit! He came up with a shit load of new techniques using plate-style textures. There was a ship that looked slightly like a battleaxe - oh, and he did a texturing tutorial too...
Sorry, that's really not helpful!

Sorry for double post, after extensive rooting about in the dregs of my memory, I remember that ti's flying_circus I was thinking of.
How many of his ships are still kicking about for download?

Think there all still there on Oosat1. Should have a look at some of Ramon's, Charlies's and Griffs ships!
Welcome back. Check out the Wikki as well as there's been some big updates.

Aye, just scanning the wiki now - all looking good!
Yeah, I want my jabberwocky back! Desperately trying to remember what the hell ship I used to fly around in before - I can't remember what it was, just that I loved it, it was brilliant.

BTW If you check the Wiki Ships page, almost all the OXP ships are now there, linked to a description and a download link. On the OXP page are download links to virtually every OXP. Check the Stations page for some new stations as well!

Yeah. Found em - got some of em too! Commies and Black Monks seem not to want to unstuff, problematically!
Can anyone remember what oxp the Cat Cougar was in?

I believe it was in the oldships.oxp, along with the Salamander, Iguana, Ghavial and so forth.
As to the Advanced Navigation array. it's a device that allows you to see the connectivity of the Galactic chart you are on, as well as showing the least number of jumps (not necessarily the quickest route) to a target system by pressing ! (SHIFT+1). It's in the
Wiki.
The targetting box is the
Advanced Targeting Enhancement.
Welcome back, Mr.
Anderson Talionis, We missed you.
