Aaah Bliss! I can now relive my wasted youth and incorporate it into my wasted adulthood. Memories flood back from playing Elite on the BBCb while my friends were outside, wasting their time socialising. I am new to Oolite and eternally grateful for all the hard work that has gone into it. I owe you all credits, luxuries or liquor/wines as a thankyou. More to the point can anyone suggest any particular add-on mission as a good starter, there are quite a few patches and I'm not sure where to start.

The Longway mission is......long, but good for getting to grips with navigation and logistics of Oolite. And you have a passenger that is happy to sleep on the floor of your Cobra III without having to buy a Passenger Berth

The longway and Black Baron are good starters, I'd also be inclined to complete the native missions first purely to get Nova out of the way, because it can clash with Deposed. There are a lot of non mission OXP's which you can install that are not skill dependant, and will tremendously enhance the, eg custom sounds, , halsis, Hoopys, etc. There are some terrific ships out there too, but beware that some of the fiercer ones are great to ride in, but they will also attack you!

Thanks a lot both of you, very helpful information. I will chase those missions up and chuck them in my add-ons file. (Thats if I can restrain myself from trying to make my ship's computer voice sound like a Zylon from Battlestar Galactica!)

My own Asteroid Storm is (though I say it myself!) a good noobs mission. Not very dangerous, takes place in Galaxy 1 and you only need to be Above Average for it to trigger!

Thanks Little Bear. I will check them pesky rocks out! I ran OOlite for the first time last night on my laptop and have made 0 progress since I have very recently been playing Christian Pinder's version of the original Beeb version.
I was really too carried away by looking at the massive contrast between the two versions - yet there is still the unmistakable playability of the original game that remains no matter what happens to the graphics, sound etc. They just don't make games like that anymore.. grumble, mumble, moan etc.
