@Cmdr W - Nice (now that I can see it :) )

Am I right in guessing that the "bar" approach is built in to the code - i.e. you can move them around and alter their orientation but you can't make them into dials or anything like that?
Quite right, bars are semi-hardcoded. They can be moved, resized, be vertical or horizontal, and have surrounds or not in hud.plist, but that's it. If it was possible to use piechart dials and/or analogue meters, I would've experimented with that.

Have to say I'm quite happy with the combination of ClearSkies and Doc's most recent HUD at the moment.

But I really like the idea of being able to know where the centre of the reticle is.
ClearSkies is great. :)
And consider the Red Dot optic as a shot saver, ie you know exactly where that laser burst is going to land. :)

Has anybody considered (if possible) making the crosshair change colour if there's a target in the centre of the screen? I'm guessing impossible as it would require a static HUD to know where an in game object was positioned and react (overlay a sprite or something (or sprites, one line on each part of the crosshair to make it change colour)) in realtime.
That's been discussed on and off, and Winston once made a modified version of the game with an advanced laser reticule. What it boils down to is an active laser reticule would have to be hardcoded; as of yet there's no way to make a hud oxp that does active reticules, so far as I know... Only passive ones so far.
Running Oolite buttery smooth & rock stable w/ tons of eyecandy oxps on:
ASUS Prime X370-A
Ryzen 5 1500X
16GB DDR4 3200MHZ
128GB NVMe M.2 SSD (Boot drive)
1TB Hybrid HDD (For software and games)
EVGA GTX-1070 SC
1080P Samsung large screen monitor

Yes it is possible, and I would really like it to be implemented, it has been discussed before, but unfortunately did not gain favour with the wizards of code on this BBS. It's a feature in Xelite which I found an excellent aid to combat, and in Oolite it would be very helpful to keep your military laser cooler for longer. Have a look at this thread here

Hope the code wizard's run with the target aids - else the laser cooler's debate will start up again

For my two-penny's worth - I say yes to laser coolers but only on Beam Lasers...

@KW - as the originator of the post you can always delete them (unless you want to keep you BB "rating" up! :D )

That option seems to disappear as soon as a new post is made in the same subject. It became impossible for KW to delete, when you told him that he could

And now the both of us would have to delete our posts, for KW to be able to delete his
