Greetings fellow Commanders.
I've been playing Oolite for quite a while now and I have plenty of questions to forward to the board. I was a great fan of the original BBC Elite, but I find this so much more rewarding. I've reached the rating of dangerous (2254Kills 98% pirates, though I do admit to annexing a large 'clean' ship or two or three.... for cargo). I've also completed some of the original Oolite missions and I've completed the Ionics mission (which was left hanging in mid space awating some completion I believe). I'm currently roaming around G7 waiting for the assassins guild to start. Do I have to complete all the original missions/OXP missions to initiate this? Was sad but not surprised to hear of Giles' departure, is anyone taking over to move the game to greater limits? Oh I'm also using a PC (sadly) is this a serious disability?

Odd.

Assassins should start if you are docked anywhere in G7 and have at least 201 kills. Have you been asked to kill a Rodent yet? I wrote Assassins on the PC, its not quite as stable as the Mac but apart from that its the same. You have prettier planets on the PC too if you run the replacement planets branch.

EDIT : Just tested it with the B7 version of Assassins and it triggered with a with my Commander. Strange! You need to be docked at the Main Station (not a Rock Hermit or Carrier) but other than that as long as your are in Galaxy 7 and have 201+ kills the script is set to start running.

Possibley the OXP got messed up in the download. Suggest you re-download it and do a reinstall. Assassins has been playtested by the Community (see Assassins Guild under Expansion Packs), so I'm faily sure its not an OXP bug.

@ Killer I - Welcome and enjoy - I've been here almost a month and have found this bunch the most friendly lot of BB posters in this or any other Ooniverse. They also seem to know a lot about everything - so I'm sure they sort you out soon enough.

Many thanks for the links to re-install. I hope this is as good as the other OXP's. I have no idea how to write them, but I hope they keep coming online. Anyone have any leads on the completion of Ionics - I rather enjoy being 'squeaky' clean.

Hah! You'll never make Elite if you stay clean. I've had several Fugitive statuses slapped on me (all unjustified, seriously), but with jumps to some quiet systems, it drops to Offender then Clean real quick.

@kliller Instinct.

Did you manage to get assassins running?

First contact from the Guild (the offer of a hit on a Rodent Scientist in a Vintage Adder), should happen the first time you dock in any G7 System with 201+ kills. You mission list on the F5 screen should change to "Ensure Be Soin enjoys a happy retirement in the Orramaor System."

BTW - Version B2 which is on Oosat1 is buggy (as it was a test beta). B7 on Oosat2 is the final version, as it was playtested to completion by lots of Commanders on Unix, Windows and Mac. You really need to use B7!, but let me know if B7 still isn't working for you!

This goes for OXPs generally, if a version is on both Oosat1 and Oosat2 you should use the version on Oosat2 is this'll be the latest version with all the bugs squashed (hopefully).

Not a chance of staying squeaky clean should you chose to become a Brother of the Guild!

Unfortunatley - no. For some reason Assassins will not run on this set up. Have jumped back to G1 with the intention of going round the block again. Had a couple of new experiences to deal with. First a Cobra Mk1 which was practically indistructable (got 100credits for the kill). Secondly a double whichspace encounter with the friendly thargoids - the second such attack left me with insufficent fuel to jump to a destination, fortunatley there was a bethemoth to dock with (with the prices of a motorway service station, talk about captive market). Saw some new ships into the bargain too. Oh well just a few more galactic jumps and hopefully assassins will engage. Speaking of thargoids reminds me that I have not completed thargoid wars and prehaps this is why assassins won't run. Anyone got a torch to shed some light?

As the Assassins readme warns you, assassins will not run properley with Thargoid Wars installed. You'll need to take out Thargoid Wars to play it. Thargoid Wars cannot be completed and the problem is that a Thargoid Wars Mission screen can come up at the same time as an Assassins briefing, preventing Oolite from displaying the Assassins briefing. You won't loose the progress you've made in Thargoid Wars by taking the OXP out as this is stored in your save file.

Could you open up your save file with notepad and do a search for "assassins". Are there any variables in your save file with this name?

My suspicion is that Thargoid Wars blocked the first Assassins brief appearing. So the script is running, but as you missed the first brief, you've no idea what you are meant to be doing! I've sent you a pm with my e-mail. If you e-mail me your Commanders save file, I can check what stage the assassins script is at.

Isn't it possible to have the essential information for each mission displayed on the ship manifest screen to stop Assassins conflicting with other OXPs from being of any consequence?

Many thanks (once again) little bear. I've done a search of the save file and assassins draws a negative. I've sent you a copy of the save file to your email box provided too. Any one shed any light on that amazingly hard to destroy Cobra Mk1? Can I buy shields like that?

Not all gear can be purchased right away. Sometimes you will have to complete a mission or alternatively be lucky and come across a ship in a shipyard with that piece of equipment already installed.

The F5 screen should change even if you miss the briefing. But for some reason assassins seems to be refusing to start at all on Killer Instinict's machine. :? Will look into this!
