TOo silly..?

I thought we could do with some Japanese here.

First of all, thanks to the Nihongo Shoho site for their help with all that fiddly Hiragana (traditional symbols) and Katakana (phonetic symbols used to spell out new or foreign words). Watashi wa Nihongo no seito desu!

OK, I wanted something to get people to join the GalCop force. Maybe something that instilled a bit of pride, making them feel like they were the GalCops. So I decided on an easy phrase. I am GalCop, which in Japanese would be "watashi wa, GalCop desu." Quite literally: regarding myself, GalCop, to be. The Japanese don't conjugate verbs (I am, you are, he/she/it is...) and they put verbs at the end of sentences. So they talk like a mixture of country bumpkins (I be shopping, I do be) and Germans (I must a letter write). But it's a nice language.

When using the Japanese Text Generator, you have to know a few things. Use capital letters to spell those foreign words (like GalCop). The Japanese use the silent "u" a lot. The word "desu", meaning "to be", is pronounced "dess", so to write "GalCop" there are a few extra unspoken "U"s in there. When writing "watashi wa" in Hiragana, the "wa" is for some reason spelled as "ha", and to get those Katakana symbols for "GalCop" in a language that doesn't have an "L" (hence the way Japanese people spell "London" as "Rondon", so all those Benny Hill sketches about things being "velly velly nice" were bollocks) ...well, here's how the sentence comes out.

Image

Yes, the closest you can get to "GalCop" is "GaruKopu". Think that's funny? Uma Thurman's sword in Kill Bill says Kiru Biru on it. Closest they could get to Kill Bill! Type "KIRU BIRU" in that text generator and search Google Images for Kill Bill. See? Learn something new every day!

So we have the Nihongo (Japanese language) version of what we want. Time to add it to the Japanese people's (Nihonjin) GalCop recruiting poster!

Arigato godsaimasu! BTW, does anyone have a good image of a GalCop emblem?

Great Japanese microlesson. :)

Some religions I've been thinking of (and used in Missionaries):

The Church of Giles the Creator are orthodox creationists. Monoteistic and dogmatic. CGC is quite old and very influential.

Witchspace Lobster Worship is Oolite animism. Classified as primitive superstition by CGC and the rest of the establishment. They seem to worship totems in the form of crudely fashioned elongated asteroids.

What's The Happy Eye? Don't know. Brainwashed smiling faces offering their pamflets at spaceports and on stations? They look happy. A new age sect? They claim to be the fastest growing spiritual franchise in the Ooniverse.

That book seems to say everything and the opposite. One of the other tales of creation in the very same codicil (and one that CGC inquisition used a lot in the olden days) attributes every imperfection in the Ooniverse to the evil host of Oxepeeing demons.

'Tis indeed a crude manipulation of a shot from exactly that movie:

And 'droogs' is of course Nadsat for 'friends' :)

(I probably shouldn't have used the 'g' from the PD friends font though - but at least the other fonts don't clash quite as nastily with each other as the ones in the CGC ad ).

yes.

Only You'd need to remove the 'ELITE' as that is for those that belong to that esteemed clique only. You could replace it with a system-name or badge number.

Also I'd like to request a 'Planet Express' Add. "we get it there, CHEAP!"

Emblems can be found easilly online.

(refering to previous page)
Aren't shaders already in? I can remember messing around with a PPC25 which had engineoutput shaders. Not quite sure whether this glow was tied into the speed level already....

Once I have some time, I'll look into this. I always wanted neon lights for my asteroidbased bar&Grill.
Maybe a shader ranging from pastel blue to white to pastel pink would look brightly enough.
Dunno if they would light up in a shadow though...G?

Even though I don;t have the time,
I guess I'll donate a nights photoshopping. ;)

The Smartmissile one is also very pretty.

Dont forget the planet known for it's parkingmeters. Veticia!

And get Selezen to do one for the TOGY. (recruiting modellers to contribute spacemonuments)
