Thanks Rxke… I’d love to do it. I have the spare time (unfortunately), but I know absolutely nothing about forum admin.
It's easy, what you say goes! You are the law!

I don't think there's any Forum Admin's Dark Wheel, it's really just common sense. Give people the benefit of the doubt, tell them what not to do and what's going to happen if they keep doing it, and then boot their sorry @$$.

I am curious though, what's the big deal about deleting suspected spam accounts? To reduce long term maintenance burden? I'm all for deleting accounts of known spammers, since I hate spam (not too fond of the meat either). However, it seems a little militant to delete people before they've even had the opportunity to show their unworthiness. Anyway, things seem to run pretty smoothly on these forums, it doesn't seem to be a huge problem here.

We've been overwhelmed in the past. We don't want it to happen again.

Nothing worse than letting a few sleepers lie because they're not doing anything and then suddenly - BAM! Spamfest postings...

SFS, Google and common sense often weed out the potential spammers quite quickly.

I will oft send a PM to a potential Mark which simply states "I think you're a spambot - reply to this PM or you'll be tagged for deletion by Admin" - I've never had a reply.

(I used to send a PM to every single new member - with the traditional greeting until my outbox all but full so many of them were non-responsive sleeper spammers)

That's fair enough, the nature of the beast I suppose. A bit like Wiki vandalism, it can just pop right up and bite you in the @$$ when you least expect it. No harm in being prepared I'm sure.

I really do loathe spammers. I think they should be rounded up for public stonings quite honestly. I'll stop now. :)

El Viejo and DaddyHoggy are elevated to admin level for spam clearance purposes.

Good Luck Commanders.

Thanks to them, and to everyone else who suggested candidates. I think we can claim to be the best board the other side of Riedquat too.

‘Elevated’… an interesting term. Thanks, aegidian… strangely enough, I almost feel ‘elevated’.
Having just zapped my first spambots, I must admit that a joyous grin spread across my face in the process.

(I've left a couple for you, DH.)

Congrats to our two new admins! :D

Oh, and perhaps El Viejo could be promoted to Intergalactic Spam Assassin as well?

Thanks guys!

Thanks to EV for leaving me a few - I've nuked some - a couple we are suspicious of I have PM'd and suggested they respond or they will be nuked (firm but fair!)

Thanks ‘in maZe’… you can’t ‘anagram’ DaddyHoggy (as you can many other forum members' names).
