Status Quo, revisited.

Folks,

Some of you may recall my novella based on Oolite. Giles and I originally intended to publish it on cafepress to raise some funds for Oolite development.

I'd like to be able to send Giles a 'real' copy in thanks for all the work he did on Oolite over the last few years, but I can't do it without some help...

I've completed the formatting of the text, but the book needs some art work for the front cover and I'm no artist!

Thusly, I'd like to invite any budding artists to submit a design for the front cover to me. I'll post them up and we can vote on the best. The winner gets credited in pre-pages and will get to see their cover on the finished paperback.

As formatted the story runs to over 200 pages, so makes a reasonable size paperback. If the new maintainer of Oolite is amiable, I can make the book available to buy with proceeds going to Oolite. If not I will make it available on my cafepress account at minimal cost.

The Dimensions of the cover are 10.5 cm by 17.5 cm and needs to contain the following information as a minimum.

Title - "Status Quo"
Subtext - "A Novella based on the space trading game Oolite"
Author - "Drew Wagar"

Other than that it's up to you!

Please send entries to [email protected]

For reference, the story is here

Cheers,

Drew.

That sounds like a really nice idea; it seems the least that we could do!

Nice planetscape, Drew. Now maybe if you added an unmarked Imperial Courier and a SuperCobra going head to head with a backdrop of a burning Thargoid Battleship, that would be a real eyecatcher!

That's the bit I can't do!

Maybe if you get in a fight with each type, then SHIFT-8 and paste them on....? :?:

When I read your first post I immediately imagined a 40's pulp sci-fi cover. The hero and (sexy :) )heroine in the foreground, part of the industrial moon in the upper left corner and a lot of ships and an exploding q-mine in between.

Something like an Earle Bergey cover :)

Very strange; when I use "view image" I can see "Revolt of the Triffids". In the normal board, nothing. Try this link: http://www.vintagepbks.com/images/publi ... op_411.jpg to see what drew was thinking.

Exactly! I just love those 40's and 50's covers. Maybe I'll draw up a scetch this weekend.

Just doin' my part. Not like I can spare the time to write a book or anything.

On that topic, is "Status Quo" available in electronic plain-text format? I could put it on my Palm and read it in my spare seconds...

If you can tell me how to convert my word doc into an ebook I'll sort one out!
