Unless you alter the ships stats yourself then you can't, there is no way ingame that you can do that. The only other way is to buy a different ship but thats possibly not a helpful answer!

not at all.

just get a good text editor.

open one of the files called shipdata.plist (the one containing your ship), alter the values therein.
save

note: this would be a dirty hack. To do it right, copy the folders as found in a ship-OXP and save your altered data-files into that.
(always best to leave the game-files alone, in case of typo's.)

Cheers for the help I managed this one, does that mean I can change anything about a ship like number of energy banks or is it limited?

Once you've worked out the format you can change anything, subject to your own conscience.

Please bear in mind - you change your ship you change every ship of that type. Make yours mega hard, so will they be.

Not necessarily. Virtually every OXP I've seen has a separate entry for player ships (eg: llama, llama-escort, llama-player).
