System 'owners' ?

Giles' post on the planet spins and the OXP work with Diso and gas giants got me to thinking...
With 2040 systems out there would it make sense for some systems be 'owned' by people so they could customise them, and make this a bit co-ordinated in some fashion?
At the moment anyone can effectively make any 'OXP' for any system and anyone can choose whether or not to load up said OXP.
We haven't had competing system OXPs yet, but I wonder if that problem could be avoided by a bit of planning now? Maybe there could be some 'system' design guidelines.
Could be a gold rush I suppose. I wouldn't mind staking a claim to 'Tianve', I kind of adopted it as my home planet in the original 'Elite' days...
Cheers,
Drew.

In that case, if we're going to do this, can I stake a claim to Tionisla?

Of course there can be competing OXPs for a given system, but with 2048 systems to pick, I think prior claims are fairly safe.
I don't think you should stake a claim to a planet in advance of producing an OXP, but heck, I can't stop you.

Perhaps there could be a 'Planets Already OXP'd' on Wiki for people to check before they start on a planet of their own.

I see I'm going to have to dig out some programming manuals. I haven't done any coding since... erm... 1997 or thereabouts! Java 1.1!
I might try to do some wacky astronomy stuff, a pulsar perhaps with the new customisable rotation stuff or a red dwarf. Would have to be far out in the system though, I suspect a pulsar at close range might be a bit inimical to life...
Is it possible to make a 'planet' such that it doesn't kill you on impact? I wonder if you might be able to wrap a nebula texture around such a thing, so you could fly through it and view it from the inside? Can the planet textures be made transparent in some fashion?
Could you do this concentrically? With a phantom planet inside another one, to give multiple layers to a nebula?
tianve.oxp here we come!
Cheers,
Drew.

No, not possible...

Mmm...
It might be possible - in future - to have multiple atmosphere layers for a planet, at different altitudes, so a pretty gas-giant/nebula effect might be possible.

A pulsar is tiny anyway, so you could make it a ship (effectively). And then use a dark continuous beam laser that swerves with the tiny star and damages anyone stupid enough to see if they can do stellar analysis on the x-ray emissions <EG>..
Just keep it some way our from an inhabited system - it wouldn't do to have it orbiting a planet. Maybe a nice triple star system with a binary pulsar/white dwarf and an inhabitable system some way off. Sort of like alpha, beta and proxima centauri but more violent...

Well, this is quite an addictive lark I have to say.
I've got the start of it going. I'm going to need to ask to borrow some models as I haven't got the skills to make them myself....
Will keep you posted.
Cheers,
Drew.

No stake claiming please!
Even if a system is already OXP-ed, I see no objection for someone else to also oxp it.
But why?
You can just as easily edit a neigbouring system and even remake it in your favorite system's image!
Just put a note in the read.me about that it requires or conflicts with some_system.oxp.
Asking the first author would be polite if you intend to change the earlier oxp and use elements of it in your own.
Have fun! (I know I'm having heaps)
