Mission Query

Hi there

I'm currently 'dangerous' (948 kills) in Galaxy 5 trying to get the Cloaking Device mission to start. I'm sure I've read somewhere - this forum probably - that it begins when you've jumped 7 or more times within Galaxy 5 (which I've done) and you have to shoot 3 asps when you come out of Witchspace.

I found a few asps on one occasion, but one of them used his fuel injectors to get away (wuss!). Since then they don't seem to be around.

Is it possible to 'miss out' on the mission in this way? I know on some missions you can just hyperspace out and then back in again to start again, but that doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe this wasn't the start of the mission at all?

Can anyone help? I'm using svn revision 658 (2006-07-16) by the way.

I just found the answer to my problem by checking script.plist. It seems that this mission is in galaxy 4, not 5. Oh well, just the 7 galactic jumps needed then.....

I believe in the scripts and such, the galaxies are numbered 0-7, so galaxy 4 in the scripts equates to what you normally think of as galaxy 5.

Thanks for the tip - so I'm left with the original mystery of why the mission isn't triggering.

Oh well, I'll give Thargoid Wars a go for now and see if the Cloak mission comes along in the future. Maybe it's the mission itself that's cloaked.

OK this problem is beginning to bug me a bit now. :cry:

I've returned to Galaxy 5 and deleted references to the cloaking mission from my saved game file. This had the effect of initiating the mission once I'd done the required 7 witchspace jumps.

I found the 3 asps waiting for me, but couldn't seem to take them in a fight - sometimes one would just hit the fuel injectors and clear out (he was still fast than me when I tried to follow with fuel injectors myself). Another time when I locked on to one of them with the ID computer, I got repeated messages of target lost up the screen and he disappeared.

In the end I just jumped in one time and energy bombed the buggers. :) Problem is, that still didn't trigger the mission properly (I assume you are meant to get some sort of message when docking with the station). I looked at my save game file and found the following:

<key>mission_cloak</key>
<string>COMPLETE</string>
<key>mission_cloakcounter</key>
<string>7</string>

This seems to suggest the mission is done and dusted. Can anyone help?

The 'disappearing' asp has a cloaking device. It's dropped in a cargo pod when he's destroyed. You need to scoop it.

So that's it!

What I thought might be a quirk of the game was in fact the clue where the cloaking device was.

Wow, now I feel dumb! :oops:
