Defensive Turrets possible ?

Defensive Turrets possible ?

I do like player ships with turrets a lot (and hate going up against npc ships with them).
Currently the turrets fire on your selected target increasing your offensive capability .

Is it technically possible to make them fire on hostile opponents (incl. missiles) that you are NOT targeting ?
This would allow them to increase defense instead of offense .

Adjusting Turret Toggler to rotate between offense - defense - off would allow the player to adjust to circumstances ..

You can already target the nearest incoming missile with turrets, Just press Shift+T.

Thanks for the tip, but upon re-reading i have not expressed myself clearly .

What I envisioned is a system where primary weapon (laser/missile) has one target and secondary weapons (turrets) have other targets .
The target selection for the secondary weapons could be done by a copilot/gunner or automated system.

Does oolite support assigning specific targets to specific weapons ?

Does not the vanilla game [EliteWiki] Multi-Targeting System do this for missiles?

It's similar but seems to be hardcoded and only used when firing missiles .
So lasers and missiles can have different target selections.

Someone well-versed in oolite sourcecode may know if that could be adapted to allow a separate target selection for turrets.
