Draven 2.0

In honour of Commander IronFist, I've taken the upgrade stick to his (very) old OXP and this is the result: Draven 2.0!

Let's start with the screenies, because who doesn't love a screenshot or two:

The station upgrade went pretty well.

Also in this pack is a new planet texture (with city lights) for Veisin (G6). Although in hindsight, given Veisin is a TL2 agricultural world, I might have put too many lights on it! Let me know.

The ship upgrades were not quite as successful I think. Most of them probably land in the "ok" bucket now, and at least don't look like they're from another game when put alongside Griff's core models. (The really observant among you might even recognise the original Griff models I stole ripped harvested borrowed elements from) I have no chance of bringing them up to Griff's standard, so this was best I could do. But there were two issues I could not work around:

1. The Gunship model had some missing textures on some faces (so they just showed as black when displayed in game), and some faces stretched the texture in really unhelpful ways, making the job of successfully applying a new texture to it way too hard. In the end I gave up on the Gunship model, and switched to using the Raider model instead. The Gunship design was based on the Raider anyway (in lore as well as code), so it wasn't a complete fail, and the Raider model and textures were much easier to work with. So, the Gunship is essentially the Raider with a slightly different texture and a bunch of plasma turrets, so it should be clear which is which.

2. When it comes to the Trader, however, the news wasn't as good. The way the model works with the texture makes it almost impossible to work with. It's duplicated on both sides of the ship, so it's hard to apply unique features, and it's also stretched in a bunch of places, which again makes it almost impossible to work with. In the end I gave up - I've given it a spruce up, but it really doesn't have the same quality as the other ships. I've left it in the package, but I've turned off all the roles so it won't spawn anywhere. I'll leave it for some future person to fix this one up.

General notes: There were a bunch of custom AI's in the original package, some of which didn't appear to be used, or called other AI's that weren't part of this pack, and weren't in the standard Oolite install. And the station AI has some bugs in it that essentially prevent the player from being tagged as an offender, even if you're sitting right outside and shooting the station. So, rather than try to bug fix these AI's, I've switched them all to use standard Oolite AI's. I've left all the AI's in the package, so if someone wants to dig around in the code and (say) fix the station AI, please feel free. I'd be happy to re-release this with the custom AI later.

I've limited the places where the ships will spawn. You will only see them in G6, and the player-flyable ships can only be purchased at the Oodulldoff station in Veisin. With the station, it won't show up on your space compass initially. You'll have to dock with the station first, and accept the docking conditions, after which the station will include a beacon to help you navigate to it. I've also moved the station from it's original position, moving it to be more out of the way, so hopefully there will be a sense of discovery when you find it.

Anyway, enough with the preamble: here's the download link: Draven_2.0.oxz (approx 35mb)

There will probably be some updates to sort out various teething issues (there will almost certainly be a missing semi-colon somewhere that will upset Mac computers), but once all that is sorted I'll add it to the manager.

There seems to be no description for this in the in-game Expansions Manager (Manifest.plist).

How about:

Adds some eye candy and background story to the ooniverse, a customized Veisin system (in Galaxy 6).




References:

Based in Riredi OXP description (which also adds a F7 planetary description, as well as the station and ships).

Draven adds the Oodulldoff station, and Draven Carriers, Gunships, Raiders, Traders, Shuttles, and Krackens! And a planet texture for G6 Veisin.

Need help !! I've been tooling around the Veisin system for a number of hours and can't find the Oodorf Station. Assistance would be much appreciated !! Thanks Steve

As a hint to at least get you in the right area...

Start looking on the other side of the planet from the witchpoint. If you calculate the distance between the WP and planet, the station will be at around half that beyond the planet. it won't be right there, but that's the area you want to be in.

When you say "start looking from the planet" i'm not sure if you mean Veisin Prime ? or the other one ? I'll try both as i haven't had any luck yet !! Also as a note. In all the hours i've been in the Veisin system i've never encountered any of the special ships from the oxp. Is that unusual ? The prime planet does have the lights effect. Thanks ! Steve

Just the main planet. The mod doesn’t add additional planets, so the main planet is the only one that can be referenced.

In the meantime, I’ll see if I can come up with some better hints.

As for the ships, I can’t remember what roles and frequencies I used. When I’m next at my PC I’ll check them and report back.

Here's the method I just used to find the station:

On my setup, the main planet is 576km from the witchpoint. So I navigate to the opposite side of the main planet from the WP. Using the Advanced space compass, I target the WP and then I try to line it up so that when I look out of the rear view, the navigation beacon to the WP is centered in the dial, while at the same time the planet is centered in my view screen. Then I target the planet with space compass and head directly away from it until it's around 288km (ie half of 576) away. I then come to a complete stop.

I turn my ship to centre the planet in my port (or starboard) view screen. Finally, I look through my front view screen and slowly pitch up, looking carefully at the star backdrop for something that flashes (ie sunlight reflecting on a ship). I head towards that light, and soon dock at the station.
Hope that helps!

As for the ships, these are the ones that can spawn in Galaxy 6:
Draven Raider has a 0.02 chance of spawning as a pirate.
Draven Shuttle has a 0.02 chance of spawning as a shuttle, and a 0.01 chance of spawning as a pirate.

All the other ships would only be spawned if a script intentionally specifies the various roles.

Or you could just use [EliteWiki] Telescope!

But all this presumes that the OXP is working as expected on your set-up. Latest.log should tell you if it isn't.

New version of Draven (v2.1) should be in the manager shortly. In this version:
- Fixed spelling errors in missiontext.plist.
- Fixed issue where a timer was not being stopped after leaving Veisin.
- Moved all text to descriptions.plist and missiontext.plist for easier localisation.
- Forced Oodulldoff station to have at least one of each of the Draven ships.
- Tweaked orientation of turrets on Gunship and Carrier to sit better.
- Fixed invalid extra equipment entry for the Kracken in shipyard.plist.
- Updated normal map on planet.
