Changing BST/GMT Timestamps?

Salutations, Commanders <o

Is it just me (and my uncontrolled/unmonitored fiddling with my User Control Panel > Board preferences > Edit global settings > My timezone), or has anyone else also noticed, from time to time, an apparent change in the timestamps of some posts made by supposedly British commanders?

It seems to me, over periods of months apart, that the timestamps of the posts of British commanders gain or lose and hour -- as if switching between BST and GMT might affect the display of the timestamps of British commanders. ...although I have not yet had the patience to sit and watch, and specifically monitor and record for myself the possible timestamp-change when the BST/GMT switch occurs.

Can anyone undeniably confirm or refute this apparent observation of mine, please?

I would very much like to know what exactly is going on, for historical-research purposes, or whether it's all just a fabrication of my twisted little imagination inside my head.

TIA

Kind regards to all

If it helps, I've never twiddled with this setting and have more than enough posts for you to work it out by looking at them.

BST begins at 01:00 GMT every year on the last Sunday of March and ends at 01:00 GMT (02:00 BST) on the last Sunday of October.

2021 28 March - 31 October
2022 27 March - 30 October
2023 26 March - 29 October

Thank you, Commander Cholmondely

I appreciate your prompt and kind response. <o

However, the situation is apparently such that if I want to work out by myself what's going on, then:

(1) I would need to know exactly at what time your post was originally made, AND (or at least)

(2) I would need to observe any potential change in your post's timestamp around the time of the GMT/BST switch itself, i.e. 2024mar31sun01:00 (which is a long time to wait still, especially if someone might have the answer to my question).

I would see the timestamp on any of your posts at the moment, now, during GMT, and I would know, from the posting date, whether the post had been made during GMT or BST. However, since I do not know at what time your post was made exactly (even though I know that it was during BST), nor whether the GMT/BST switch actually has an effect on how timestamps are displayed, unless someone has the answer, I would have to wait for the switch to occur on mar31. :?

Even if you recorded your local time in a reply to this post right now, I would still have to wait until mar31 to confirm or refute my supposed, uncertain timestamp-observations.

I was hoping that perhaps aegidian, who installed these bulletin boards originally, or the person currently maintaining the software/server/something, might able to shed some light on the inner workings under the hood in this regard.

Thanks.

This post was made at exactly 15:17 GMT - but since the default is presumably GMT...

Forum default time is UTC. Select your own time-zone (adjust twice a year for BST/DST if applicable), and all should be fine.

Thanks, Commander Cody. <o

Does this mean that my imagined observation, of UK timestamps seemingly changing, was just that: imagined? ...and that, if there actually had been any UK timestamps of other commanders' posts changing on me, then it probably occurred because I fiddled with my own, personal time-zone preferences? Does this mean that UK timestamps do not ever change after a post has been made, not even when the GMT/BST switch occurs (possibly in order to express the original timestamps in terms of the new/different DST-period)?

I'm hoping your answer to these questions would be a single 'YES', but please pardon my obtuseness; I want to make sure that I do not misunderstand your meaning.

Thanks again.
