just doing a test run to try and get this sctipt sorted, and my station....hyperspaced!
Image
biggest cloud i've ever seen. i assume a ship jumped nearby and somehow the station got caught up? how do i stop that? i managed to follow it in and ended in the model just below the dock, looking through walls, then immediately died when i tried to move.

Had you given it the wrong AI I wonder?
Used station instead of ship in a script perhaps?

GIANT Wormholes!

The Hoopy Casino ship/station will hyperspace if its energy gets low, so I've seen the same behavior many years ago.

The "killing effect" of a very large wormhole is caused by any large ship/station/asteroid that gets sucked in -- you crash into those at the wormhole destination typically before you even get to see the new system.

I've since experimented with how big a wormhole cloud can be...and I hit a size so big the game no longer displayed it from any distance.

This one is smaller than that...
Image

The targeted wormhole is a quickly-decaying one from a small jump-capable device/ship.
The multiple wormholes in the distance were mostly made from the killer asteroid in Asteroid Storm, so they're much bigger than they appear.
The asteroids are cinder asteroids in the core game, seen in a post-nova system.

However the thing-of-note is what dominates the picture and is further away than all the other stuff.

1) Was the "thing-of-note" also generated by the killer asteroid?
2) Killer Asteroids don't usually come with a hyperdrive attached. What happened?
3) Were the difficulties in "seeing things" similar to the difficulties involved in seeing Eric Walsh's Large Test Globe oxp?

1) It may have started out as such, but it was...modified considerably...before it got to that point.

2) Nothing happened, all I have to do is give it fuel and tell it to jump in a script and it does.
I do the same thing with alloys and missiles all the time and they don't come with a hyperdrive attached either!

3) At some HUGE distance, a wormhole may disappear...but it's usually a tiny dot before then. The really big wormholes seem to be visible from much further away than asteroids and stations.

This wormhole has been targeted from ~20 km from its core. My ship is right on its edge.

tiny, Big, and HUGE wormholes all in 1 picture!

The nameless NOTHING has grown so huge it could eat an entire star-planet system!
Flee before it devours you too!

Compare its edge curvature with the 1st picture in this post!
Good luck estimating its size!

haven't put anything ship-like in a script, has stationAI etc etc, no idea what happened, beyond guessing someone jumped close to it and somehow the cloud sucked in the station.

beyond guessing
KW, I just stumbled across this: "lib_shield" which possibly creates the blue transparency effect at the docking portal here:

Image

Peering inside the Buoy Repair oxp, there seems to be no need for Library.oxp (so why "lib_shield"?) and there are at least two textures ("grs_mainglow_e.png" & "grs_mainglow.png" involved).
