Globe and Torus station updates

I've pushed updates to Globe Stations and Torus Stations into the Expansion manager, coincidentally bringing both of them to version 2.1. These now make use of 1.90+ features, using the default shaders, and including specular and gloss maps.
Globe stations will replace Ico stations in certain systems (randomly chosen), whereas Torus stations are preselected.
These updates will also automatically update Stations for Extra Planets with these next textures.
If you've got the "Murgh Stations" OXP, I'd recommend uninstalling that one and using these instead.
Globe station
Torus station
I've posted these in the screenshots thread, but just for reference:

I wasn't aware that these had arrived until now. They're magnificent.
And they fit wonderfully into my dirty metal world. My only only wee quibble is that I had to make up my own shiplibrary entries

Send me your ship library file and I’ll add it to the official release.

What would be really super (if there is anybody out there who would
do something with it) would be to have a couple more models of stations partially destroyed - and of stations being constructed/repaired.

Yessir!

should work
I'd like to suggest that the two-wheeler gets its shipdata name altered to Dual Torus, so it makes a little more sense.
Again, thanks for making them look so good.

Oof, even more difficult to pull off. A task for the high-poly masters.

I really want to like the Globe and Torus stations, but one problem I especially have with the Torus stations is their small docking port relative to their total size. Docking a Boa 2 or Anaconda without any scraping is really hard on the minimally-sized docking ports.

I thought the docking slit was the "industry standard" one. They're not all the same?
I recently took out a Boa 2, and did have a docking accident, but then I remembered having recently (in one of the very ancient posts skimmed) read that the secret to them is docking sideways.. But this is not the case now with the common Coriolis, Dodo and Ico?

Indeed that probably is the standard sized docking port/slit/bay/entrance for the common Coriolis. Dodo, and Ico stations ...and it sucks trying to dock a Boa 2 if you don't do it sideways.

If we have problems with docking after playing the game for how long...what about new players?
Special stations can-and-should get away from that size limitation, because they're often much larger than the original stations...or at least the Torus ones are!
It's why I like the Superhub station, but even it kills my ship sometimes due to docking weirdness.

I've never had this. What happened?

The visual model doesn't line up with the collision model.
Try flying close to the central opening approaching from the side... you'll probably soon painfully discover something's not right!

There seems to be a difference between the rectangle used on the torusmodel and the actual dock shape, it fits because the dock is larger than the rectangle cut.
I was looking for a way to make the rectangle bigger, unfortunate the torus dat would not convert so couldnt confirm its actual size...

That looks like something is clashing between OXP's, or maybe the globe is referencing a generic dock and oolite is picking the one from the current shipset - maybe back when the globe station was created the default shipset dock object was a different object.
There's isn't a dock model supplied with the globe station is there, if so, make sure the globe station is referencing that specifically in is shipdata.plist

I went back and checked (every dockable I ever put out). Both the ancient torus and globe models had a standard 192x64 slit even back in 05-06. The originals used the native docking box but these modern ones come with the custom tori_dock and globestation_dock (that I can't convert back to .obj)..

I'm unable to convert back the modern Torus too (like most hypermodern things) but I can convert the globes. They use a core model like the original and its docking slit is the standard 192x64.
@Griff, would you maybe still have wings models for these docking boxes?
[edit]
Hah, I opened them in textEdit. The globestation_dock.dat is 192x64x250
but.. the tori_dock.dat is 210.362x81.027x250 which is weird

I probably caused the problem. I think In one of my updates I took the dock from the updated Griff Coriolis and mashed it into the same space as the original dock, as I thought the newer textures and model looked a lot better.
I'll experiment with the older Griff dock and see if that corrects the issues.

Although, as I refresh my memory by looking at the screenshots, I *am* using the older Griff dock model, which is, if memory serves, a plain box shape, rather than the more greebled modern Griff dock. I'll have to explore this a bit more.
