I'd go for 11 for the following reasons:

3. It runs Oolite just fine.
Thanks for boiling it down. All the youtube opinion proclaimers with their 37 reasons to hate win11 and such were getting to me.

So my next dilemma while waiting for my expensive Lego in the mail, win 10 or 11?

you get this w/ every Win release; people love it, people hate it, people rant about the extra bloat, you know the score. personally, i wouldn't touch a new OS until it's bedded in for at least a year, and keep an eye on the sensible forums - i mentioned tenforums, there is now an elevenforums where a lot of the same knowledge base reside because they upgraded. if you get W10 now you've probably be able to upgrade free later, but look into that yourself. W11 has some hardware needs so have a quick check of the stuff on your shopping list that it's W11 compatible

I'll certainly keep an eye on that. If I don't meet the hardware requirements the choice has been made for me.

Some superficial research tells me that the free upgrade from 10 to 11 may end as early as October, –possibly not, but since I'm not one of those that get great enjoyment from fixing and tweaking, I'd rather settle in and get on with enjoying what the machine can do. It's about a year old, isn't it? My new best friend Linus just told me they've fixed most teething issues, especially those pertaining to AMD (L3 chache latency fix!!). What is this geekery I am writing?

Those crazy cases make me see my own choices in a very conservative light. I have a long way to reach total geekdom.

The free upgrade from Win7 to Win10 expired in July 2016, but I think it can still be done via the M$ website (long as you have a valid product key). M$ left the loophole there 'cos they want everyone to upgrade. I suspect they''ll leave a loophole for 10/11 too.

I did a quick and rough custom config of a similar machine, built to spec by PCSpecialist (a reliable company).
The price was surprisingly reasonable, so I presume components are a tad more expensive in Norway?

I would have thought so, but parts bought through amazon.co.uk are comparable to mine, apart from a few items I got discounts on. Your specialist maybe offers a more pleasant price than £1850? (incl 420 monitor)

Similar, but no monitor - I couldn't match every component, but the main stuff is there. Go here and try configuring a machine.

Hey. Pretty close. Not all identical bits available but competitive. It used to be Norway was much more expensive. :D

Feeling cheap with my 1TB storage drive now. And what's with no second monitor!?

<chuckles> Careful - it'll be a second graphics card next, then you'll be able to run eight monitors!
I don't think Cholly has a tame geek handy, so I'd previously recommended PCSPecialist to him.

That was my experience when there. What's a pint of beer cost over there now?

You usually pay £8-10 for .5L generic tap beer (like many many expensive cities, no?). Our alcohol tax pays for free health care, see.

I don't fancy buying a new GPU for a while. That was a silly price. It better serve me well for many years.

Around here, beer's about £5 a pint - but in "trendy" parts of London, £8-10 is probably the norm.

If/when prices fall, I'll be looking to go 4K (but I want faster than 60Hz).
4K (3840x2160), 144Hz, IPS, quantum-dot, 4ms(GTG), 16:9, 27" = £2,049.99 <gulps>
Improbability Factor falling - now looking at £749 for very similar spec.
