I already finished early game missions such as The Collector and Scourge of the Black Baron and they were rather short and disappointing. The Collector isn't even a finished product. I was told Oolite had missions that last super long.
My favorite Mission oxz is Random hits and i kinda expected the others to have just as much effort put into them but I checked and random hits seem to be the biggest in byte size. This seems to point that random hits might be the exception not the norm.
The following seem long from what I've read about them:
Ionics, Iron Raven, Resistance Commander, The Assassin's Guild, Trident Down & Xeptatl's Sword (
this is massive! ... and an update has just been published by Spara - there is one single item which still wants tweaking as regards aesthetics, but this should now be fully playable).
Also, Cataclysm & Vector are reputed to be top-notch, but one needs older versions of Oolite to play them (see the wiki pages).
Three items of note:
1)
Size of .oxp does
not correlate to
size of mission but rather to number & complexity of graphics of extra ships/stations possibly included in it.
2) For some missions you
need to skim the wiki page to see if there is pertinent .pdf literature hidden away inside the .oxp folder which you are assumed to have read. Some of this (Xeptatl's Sword) is now on the wiki, but not all of it, sorry! I know that this especially holds true for Ramirez's missions which come with elaborate .pdf's.
3) As more and more über-ships and possible plot-wrecking equipment came out (
eg: über-weapons, Telescope, Long Range Scanner, ?Repair Bots, Technical Reference Library, Gallery, the recently published Galactic Almanac
etc.), some mission authors just gave up and stopped updating their oxp's. When the ability to exclude such oxp's was included in the new in-game Expansions Manager, these authors had already given up and never availed themselves of it.
If you play these and could identify such equipment, we can make a note of it on the relevant wiki pages!
