Notepad++ now has a Dark Mode - much easier on the eye. If only the Oolite forum had a Dark Mode. <sighs>

Don't worry, I've got your back: https://darkreader.org/

It works great for 99% of the sites I have visited. And the Oolite forum looks grand in dark mode, too!

Another hint would be that the "real" browsers (i.e. Mozilla based  ) still have a "color" option in the settings where you can tell them how you want the text/background rendered by default, and you can enforce your choice over what the sites throw at you.
Of course, with the highly customized styles each and every other html page uses nowadays, it's very likely that they won't work as expected everywhere (although it seems to go quite nicely with the forum here -- you'll need to define your own color set, though).

...I am wondering. Back in the days of monochrome displays it was just normal to have one colour of text on black background. Green screens were mild on the eyes, and amber displays were also quite nice.

When did that trend come up that we switched to black letters on white background?

Yeah, I tried that years ago, but 'twas a bit of a mess - not only the colours but page formats too.
On Waterfox Classic these days, and Dark Reader works fine with that (as it should).

Dunno - probably a microslurp thing. I remember green screens, and gold on amber.

I believe it started with the Macintosh and "WYSIWYG" publishing (ie black print on white paper)
