International Dawn Chorus Day

Post by Cody »

Apparently, there's an International Dawn Chorus Day (the first Sunday in May). There'll be an international day for everything soon.
Having recently migrated from the town centre to the leafy suburbs, I can confirm that the dawn chorus is alive and kicking!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

But if today is the day, then you should be able to sleep in undisturbed tomorrow, yes? If not, you should be able to sue the geniuses who came up with idea. Or get a fulsome handwritten apology.

<chortles> I'm something of a night owl, and this time of year, the dawn chorus is in full swing as I'm crawling into my bed.

My favourite international day is International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19th).

The dawn chorus is going like the clappers of doom this morning!

Well, if you will insist on bouncing around in Galaxy 7...

I just read this in Dr Beeb's analysis of the Academies in the 8 galaxies:

The high Thargoid threat in the 'upper' Galaxies (5 through 8) has forced GalCop to focus on the accreditation of academies based at Democracy worlds. With the notable exception of Galaxy 6, where battle fatigue has made Democracy worlds reluctant to supply more 'turret fodder' for the Galactic Navy. (Galaxy 5 page)

Countering the Thargoid threat has been made doubly difficult in Galaxy 7 with the self-serving behavior of the Corporate State Academies and the overall corruption and narcotics trade involving the major human colonies. GalCop accredited academies in the other galaxies eventually terminated reciprocal relations with the human-dominated academies of Galaxy 7. Eventually an offer from an 'Equality' of Academies representing all the non-humanoid species was reluctantly accepted by the other GalCop Academy members after 10 years of turbulent negotiations. (Galaxy 7 page).

The seventh octant is the only place to be! It has one of the longest cross-chart runs (41 jumps); it has two distinct hemispheres, with only two connections; it has the Great Rift and the Rift Worlds; it has Beatle; it has Xeer; and it has Ceerti - a revolting little planet!

Mind you, last night I was pounding away on Jarte, not bouncing around the seventh!

<grins> Aye, I'll have a nice cup of BOP on October 1st. What we need is an International Elite Day - on September 20th, of course!

* My first contact to the turtle was when I petted someone's pet turtle.
* My second contact was when I used GW Basic and switched the monochrome graphics adapter into APA mode (all points addressable).
Then with some simple commands like 'pen up/down', 'move forward', 'turn left/right' it was possible to draw arbitrary graphics...

* My last contact was when I read books from Terry Pratchett and learned the whole world rests on four elephants standing on the back of the big turtle swimming through the Ooniverse... BTW, where is the matching OXP?

Cody's working on it. Except that it's lobsters on the turtle. CBR's lobsters.
