Internal views as equipments, and sides and rear views specfic GUI

Post by commander_STyx2909 »

Regarding ships shapes, it is very obvious the internal views (2/F2 to 4/F4 keys) are not cockpit based but upon digital cameras instead. I deserve right to 1/F1 to be a true windshield (spaceshield?), though it will be wise to add it to the modifications as well.
So, by making these as part of equipments, they could be damaged during a collision or a combat, as far as an OXP is developped for this purpose...
An option for developpers to keep them indestructible should be granted as well.

Second point is, would be, having specific GUIs for left, right port, starboard and rear views, so that Front views instruments are not repeated, providing - in the complete opposition to the previous point - a real cockpit feel.

Additionnally, a brave developper, could introduce a up and bottom views, and/or possibility to shift views up and down by 45° (i.e. SHIFT+ '1', CONTROL + 'F2'). Direct hit of view key (i.e. '3') resetting values to standard. An horizontal panning mode could be welcome too but I don't want to be too demanding for a first suggestion. Using the KEY_gui_arrow_keys for this purpose?
Asus K61ic, 4Gb RAM, Nvidia GT220M (1Gb VRAM), OpenGL renderer version: 3.3.0 ("3.3.0 NVIDIA 340.108").
Ubuntu 20.06.

One of the peculiarities which has been niggling me for some months now is that the most useful views are to the sides (as are the extra lasers), whilst the most responsive movements are up and down (pitching). Were they constraints imposed by B&B's programming for the BBC Micro?

And, if the F2/F3/F4 views are indeed electronic, this should have consequences for glare reduction which now becomes a cheap software issue rather than an expensive coating issue for those three views.

Second point can be achieved through OXP (i.e. DANGEROUS HUD series). Seems first point can be achieved too this way.

Only last suggestion left... :D
