MFDs reset after docking, VimanaHUD-12

Am i missing something or a setting somewhere, every time i dock and launch i have to re-setup all my MFDs which is really annoying. especially if i'm launching from a rock hermit or RSS and may need to be prepped for bounties or pirates after launch - so target scanning, target memory, range scans or fighter-bay status target status - immediately after launch. HUD = VimanaHUD (12MFD), Ship = Dark Rainbow, OS = Linux

I've had this too - with the older 6-MFD versions. But also when I've not had Vimana loaded. From main orbitals as well as the Rock Hermits. It rather seems to come and go as an issue. At the moment, things seem all right, thank heavens!
OS Catalina, vanilla Cobra III.
By the way, Sir MTatham: welcome to the merry throng! Hoping you manage to enjoy the dreaded experience!

Thankyou; its been 30+ years since i last played elite on my neighbours BBC. but its all coming back to me now..
would you recommend removing the VimanaHUD oxp and reinstalling? the resetting each mfd during flight has annoyed me so much i stopped playing.
especialy if i'm docking more than once per system, esp when in TL2-14 systems, when there are superhubs , rss and other dockables to investigate and get my galcop bounty reward emails. esp after i leave a void bomb or q-mine in the middle of 15 pirates or fugitives...

I don't think that's a problem with Vimana HUD specificaly... 3 possible solutions:
- Install HUD Selector OXP and use it's Station Interface (at F4 while docked, it's called "HUD and MFD selector", use the first option, "MFD setup") to set which MFD should be shown in each MFD slot (beware of switching HUDs in-flight though: if you are using a 12-slots HUD and switch to a 6-slots HUD, you will lose the allocation definition for the positions 7-12); that's what I do for my poor commanders who don't have the cash to spare for MFD Fast Configuration.
- Install MFD Restore after Load OXP.
- Install MFD Fast Configuration OXP and buy it's equipment (this is the more versatile option, since you can have several sets pre-defined, switch between them, and assign which set should be used for each alert condition, this is what I do with my well-to-do commanders)

also i noticed my dark rainbow doesn't visually appear in the ship status module box. not a big deal, tho
ps. is there a way to know which missile/mine i have selected at any time, there are so many symbols, i cant remeber them all and i like a selection on APRIL , a small text box under the pylon in the head with the name of the selected missile/mine/bomb would be really helpful

Can you PM me the start of your Latest.log? Everything from the beginning until the end of the world scripts list? (that's the list of file in ManagedAddOns and AddOns folders, for the list of oxps installed, and the list of world scripts - that gives me the oxps' versions)
It works here, so there must be some interference... I have a guess, but let's look at what you have installed first...

Frankly, I haven't run the add-on modules for Vimana HUD yet (I have been doing broken Adder starts in IronMan mode and haven't got to the point of having cash to spare for them yet), but there is a set of image files in the Images sub-directory and a list of them in the script, if a ship isn't there there is no model to show.
List of ships in the script:
Code: Select all
this.$GameShips = [ // storage; ships and other model picture
//player ships
{ship: "Python", file: "python"},
{ship: "Boa", file: "boa"},
{ship: "Anaconda", file: "anaconda"},

I have trouble remembering the icon for each kind of pylon equipment too... there should be no big difficulty in displaying a text with a description of the equipment in the selected pylon, except for finding a place to display it...

Actually, just whizzing around in windows - I only get 2 permanent MFDs - I have to reset the other four every single bally time I launch.
Windows 10; Cobra Mk. III; Oolite 1.88
I have HUD Selector, MFD Restore after load & MFD Fast Configuration (which I find too complex and heavily suspect is likely to drop me in the doo-doo when I need it the most).

HUD Selector, MFD Restore after load & MFD Fast Configuration
I'd try without any of those installed and see if the problem persists. If I was to hazard a guess, I would suggest the first two are fighting each other. MFD Fast Config shouldn't do anything if have haven't set up any sets, but best to remove it from the equation to make sure.

In my installation (400+ OXPs installed) that doesn't happen, nor does it with a minimal installation.
Try removing every OXP but VimanaHUD and Combat MFD (required by VimanaHUD) - you will need to keep either VimanaShipOverrides or HUD Selector to make sure your ship's hud is VimanaHUD - and see if that behaviour persists (with MTATHAM it didn't, the minimal installation worked fine).
If that minimal installation works OK, start adding your OXP set back in groups, keeping notes what OXPs you added, and test to see if the MFDs still work OK. When you add a group of OXPs and the MFDs break, take those OXPs out and add them back one at a time until you find the particular OXP that is breaking things - if we know which one is doing that, we have a chance to fix it.
Don't remove the OXZ files from the folders, rename your ManagedAddOns (and AddOns if there is anytthing there), create a new (and empty) ManagedAddOns folder and move the OXZ files from the renamed folder there - that way you don't have to download anything.
The described behaviour is consistent with a docked HUD with only 2 MFD slots being assigned to the player ship when it docks. VimanaHUD assigns its own docked HUD, with 12 MFD slots, in shipWillDockWithStation event handler, but if any other OXP is doing the same, once a HUD with N MFD slots becomes the ship's HUD anything assigned to slots n>N is lost.

Hope to get onto all this over the next couple of days. Too busy wiki'ing at the moment!
Thanks for the suggestions.
