If you find any OXP that isn't in the Expansion Manager, please PM me a link.

I would like to create a repository of "lost" OXPs, that aren't in the Expansion Manager for one reason or another, like:
- not maintained anymore, so they weren't updated with a manifest
- no explicit license allowing modification by new maintainers

As I read posts from some years back in this forum, in topics like Tales from the Spacelanes, I see plenty of references to OXPs I can't find anymore, and It's a shame for all that work to be lost - license or not, I can't think that's what the authors wanted...

We should do something... recover as much as we can, update those that can be updated, keep those that can't as inspiration for re-writes.... but it starts by recovering as many of them as we can.

I find Shipbuilders ships hard to find and download from box.

If I might add to the clamour.

It is my contention that any OXP/OXZ created under a creative commons license ( free to use ) should be readily accessible and not buried.

Norby , that old link died. If yo can find another way of sharing what you have, there would be a heck of a lot grateful souls here. Just so long as its shared under the creative commons license ( as I understand the creative commons license )...I have seen no examples of litigation by folks giving their stuff away up to press.

Its way past time these good folks had to put up with playing less than half the game.

As far as I know, they can't be downloaded from Box anymore... the GalTechEscapePods OXP is courtesy of Cody (thanks, EV!) that made a copy available.

Hence this call: if you have access to a copy of any OXP that isn't in the Expansion Manager, PM me a link and I will see to it that it goes into the Expansion Manager if there's a license in it allowing me to update it with a manifest, or find a home for it and post a link in the fist post of this topic.

Re GalTech ships: I've emailed Shipbuilder, so hopefully he may respond.

This is what I have that isn't in the Expansion Manager:

by Eric Walch:
RockHermitLocator: lacks explicit license, I have a re-write (sort-off, it took a life of its own  ) in the works

by Eric Walch and 8-Bit Apocalypse:
SuperCobra: lacks explicit license and I don't have the original zipfile

by Gnievmir:
VimanaHUD: license CC BY-SA 4.0, PMed the author to ask about putting it in the EM

by phkb (! ):
EscapePodSlaveFix: PMed him about it

by Flying_Circus:
The Morrigan v1.0.1: no explicit license, the readme goes on about Oolite being under Creative Commons and non-commercial;

by ?:
Terrapin Trader: just the zipfile and it has no readme, license or note, just the plists, model, textures and sounds

Morrigan I have the original and a modified version. It's part of one of my longterm-WIP's  but developed kind of its own life over the months. I am toying with the idea to combine it with Jabberwocky (similar) and make a new OXP containing both.

EDIT:
I started an archive with original versions I found in my backups: Lost OXP's

So fare following ships are included:

Chimera Gunship
Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser
Cylon Raider Mark 1
GalTech Escort Fighter
Serpent Class Cruiser

There is something that I want to make clear: I intend to respect the original author intentions.

That said, unless there is evidence that the author changed his/her mind (and please, if anybody knows otherwise about any of the authors of the mentioned OXPs, let me know), to me making his/her work available for download in an open source project community is clear indication of his/her wish for his/her work to be used by others, but offers no indication on his/her intentions about others altering it.

What that means is that I think redistributing the original work is OK until we hear otherwise, but altering it requires explicit manifestation from the author allowing it.

Many of the OXPs I hope to recover (Galactic Navy anybody?) are probably broken on current day Oolite API, but they could be a source of inspiration for re-writes (and those re-writes don't need to be restricted to what the OXP that inspired them did, they could build on it).

Morrigan (original) and Galactic Navy added to the archive. I hope GN is the original, I have plenty of rewrites as well so I uploaded the oldest I found.

While Morrigan and Jabberwocky got no explicit licenses available a complete rewrite based on both is possible and, as much as I remember, nowadays kind of necessary.

All of those by Shipbuilder are under CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0, so I will upload and create manifests for them tomorrow and they will be on the Expansion Manager - I hope they still work... if not we have some work to do :P

If you have the expertise (for ship models I don't), the time and the inclination, go for it!

All ships in Shipbuilder's wiki page have been uploaded but Fireball and Arachnid Mark 1, but there's an Arachnid variant in Norby's EscortPack and in Spara's Random Hits.

I believe we are still missing Colonial Viper Mark 1 as well. Another big package would be Isis Interstellar but I think in this case Norby could help.

EDIT:
One more "lost" package: Star Wars Ships -> found in my backup and uploaded to my archive on box, no licenses available that I can see. However, I am working on a rewrite that would include Lambda and TIE variants. Most ships on wiki already:
Lambda Liner
Lambda Freighter
TIE/F02 Fighter
TIE/GA01 Fighter
TIE/S01 Scout
Still pending, Lambda Shuttle and TIE-Interceptor.

Well, 50% of the work already exists, the model is a free download converted from .obj to .dat so if on the weekend I have some time I could design some additional textures. Everything else is mainly copy & past with some quick edits.
