What is circuit bending exactly? I didn't see any evidence of PCBs being physically distorted...

It's the 'art' of making musical instruments out of everyday gadgets and appliances.
I put 'art' in quotes cos I'm not sure whether it's an art or a science.
Wikipedia has an article on it.

i modify kids toys/keyboards by altering the original circuitry.
for example there might be a resistor in a toy that controls the pitch of sample playback, exchange this for a variable resistor and hey presto you can have full control over pitch!!
so i basically solder new controls onto the original circuitry and mount the new controls on the toys casing, then i make music with them, and keep them or sell them on.
