Eye candy OXZ's?

Post by IWantABoa »

Hello again. I wanted a few eye candy OXZs to enjoy my time on Oolite, but I feel like I don't know any. I'd like OXZ's that look realistic, like Griff's ships which look absolutely beautiful. I've seen Povray Planets etc, but yet to try it out. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Torus Stations are cool - and Povray Planets is well worth trying.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I already have the Torus Station OXZ installed, and checked out Povray Planets. I also checked out Deep Horizon Industries' OXPs but can't find any download link that works :(

These should work (if not, I'll message Cheyd). The DH Nav Buoy is a must-have.

For some reason the download fails at the beginning itself, are there any mirror sites?

They're working fine here. As far as I know, there are no mirror sites - which DH OXPs are you after?

The DH Nav Buoy is available on the download manager, if that helps a bit.

Already have the DH Nav Buoy, it indeed is a beauty... I am currently searching for Deep Horizons Systems v2.08 Beta(Standard res texture pack), DH Lights Down, and the Gas Giant Skimming OXP. These are all really intriguing, but does the DH Lights Down OXP require me to remove any other Background changing OXZs?

Also, does the developer of the DH OXPs still work on it? Seems like it hasn't been updated in a long time...

I believe Cheyd no longer develops his OXPs, but he does still monitor the forum/messages.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been rather busy with no time to check the forums. Either way, I have downloaded the .oxps. Thanks a lot for the link!

Thanks for the mention of my work, Cody.

And you're correct. I no longer develop my OXP's. I lost interest when the Shady Planets branch of code died, combined with a bug I'd run into with the cubemap converter (I forget the name of that tool now) that was lingering for a long time.

If I ever got a bug up my backside to work on it again, I had several planet textures that were unreleased, and was going to rework gas skimming since scriptable volume control had been added. I might update / release that stuff.

Also, there was talk of replacing the native nav buoy with mine (if I changed the license). I'm still open to that and am willing to turn nav bouy over to whatever license is required if there's interest from the core devs. The fad of folks gumballing other dev's work seems to have died away, so I'm comfortable with it going into core.

I forget why I started this post... I'm getting old... GET OFF MY LAWN!!! :P

<sniggers>

I talk to myself much more these days, I've found
Halfway up the stairs, I stop and frown
Now what was I going to get?
And did I get it yet?
And more to the point
Was I going up or coming down?

Well, I'm keen for your buoy to go into the next version of Oolite. I'll have to talk to one of the devs.

Oh, wait on. I am one of the devs!

Seriously, I think the only thing, licence-wise, is for the buoy to be released under a standard Commons Creative Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike License version 3.0, which is what the rest of the models and textures are released under. At the moment (at least from the version I have), the licence in use is Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States license (Modified).

That said, I am no expert on this, so I'm very happy for someone to jump in and tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.

I won't derail this topic further however. Very happy to work with Cmd. Cheyd on integrating his buoy into core (but in another thread!)

Since we are discussing buoys, their integration into things, and modified licenses has anybody thought of an update to BUOY REPAIR using Cmd. Cheyd's excellent buoy. Had a look at it myself but such a project would be a bit beyond my coding skills plus most of my time is not my own these days. Not looking to create additional work for anyone mind you. Just throwing the idea out there since Buoy Repair is an older OXZ that seems at least as popular as Cmd. Cheyd's buoy.
