In case anyone hasn't heard, Ursula K Le Guin (author of a lot of SF although better known for the Earthsea fantasy books) died on the 22nd, aged 89. She'll be greatly missed.

Cody also mentioned it here.
Her Hainish worlds (both fantasy and sci-fi) novels are some of the greatest titles in the top reads on any decent late XX century sci-fi book list.

On another RIP thread, Dolores O'Riordan also passed away this month (at almost half the age of Ursula K Le Guinn). I'll have to keep myself from watching/listening to Cranberries for a long while, now ...

RIP Ursula. I very much enjoyed the earthsea stories when I was a kid, but had no idea she also wrote Sci-fi. Maybe I have to look it up.
I remember when Harry Potter came out, and I was like: " this is kids stories. Read about Sparrow Hawk. HE is a REAL wizard!" ;)

The Dispossessed is probably a good novel to start with.
