Working through trying to learn wings3D all over agin... new features like snap to image. I don't know how useful they are.
Heres an early experiment.

Just been reviewing old posts to see how I left things.

I think last notice was I was moving house, and getting divorced.
I'm remarried ... same woman. Moving again soon ... with a maybe upgrade to the computer.
Just looking through the changes to see how I'd have to up my game if I'm going to take part.

Welcome back, I just recently had a long look at your former work together with ADCK

I've been getting notices of downloads from box still, curious that people still like them with the griff ships not the standard.
I like to think I had something to do with Griff finally finishing his replacements... motivation etc.

Of course, now, it will be much harder to modify them.

Are there special favorites from my old sets that people would especially like to see more in tune with the new oolite universe?

Trying to figure out how to use the "snap" approach in wings to produce a useable texture.
So far is I export the model I don't get the texture, and only materials that I explicitly specify in the materials dialog get exported.
I used to use an outliner window to make the texture internal.

Figured it out ... found an outlier window. It's a different layout but it let me internalise the texture and export it successfully to a new program.
For some reason I can no longer display pics ... I need coffee.

Welcome back Simon.

I think your earlier posts just predate my appearance on these boards but as an admirer of your work: thanks.

Personally, I thought your models were getting better and better with some of the later Cobra variants especially appealing. Love your 'Re2dux period'.
If you'd like a more specific example then how about this one. (No picture now of course but maybe you can identify it...)

If you're looking for new ideas then I'd love to see your take on an asp the 'right' way up (as in the original elite) or a fer de lance model based on the original elite proportions and not those of the 'original' oolite models. I've mentioned the same a few paragraps in (along with the asp) here... and recalling some more, even the MkIII was affected...

In any case, whatever you decide to dabble in, or tinker with, will I'm sure be of interest.

Not an old set of yours but 1 set that pops up in my mind is Military Fiasco (no offense meant). I personally like the mission and the ships there but if you compare them with the new oolite universe they could use some refurbishment, maybe in the style of your Light Destroyer or ADCK's Galactic Navy ships.

No worries :)

That's one of the pics p-bucket is holding to ransom.
I think I know though... it's a chopped cobra with big engines and cut-away panels to accommodate huge intakes.
There was some enthusiasm for that at the time but it never made it to a model.

One of the things for me to look at is ways to modify the Griff designs currently default to see if my cobra variants will still work.
(Note: they tend to be variations of the same ship from the "pimp my cobra" competitian ages ago. iirc all creators expressed support for this, and only Wolfie wanted an explicit credit.)
Mine tend to be cc by sa to me ... asking for a link someplace pointing to me: should use my g+ profile page, which would rule out ppl who object to g+ on principle (my fb page per alt.)

... hmmm you have seen my ships right? "Returning to original" is not what I do.

more recently having issues with "cannot determine dimensions of image" on correct urls. <sigh>
