Velerian and the City of a Thousand Planets trailer

Looks like Luc Besson has made another SF film, based on a comic which I know nothing about. Standard Besson tropes, visually stunning and stylish but some bits look a bit silly. Though that doesn't stop me liking 5th Element for the sheer silliness of it...

It does indeed look like it might be fun … and it's encouraging to see something that isn't part of some stale lumbering franchise. Granted, if it's a success, it might become part one of an eventual SLF, but at least for now it's fresh!

Yes but I would replace the sheer silliness with the sheer fun :)

This comic is excellent. Traditional french comic.
Simple and fun at the beginning, it has matured with more tomes coming in something quite complex and fun.
The author has worked on the 5th element too, and its world "type" is totally recognizable in that movie. In fact, it was the reason I went to this movie, and enjoyed it. (Because, another anti-hero saving the world and getting the chick is not a reason to spend 2 hours.)

I'm surprised that so few know this comic. It is quite brilliant imho, and there is rumors that Star Wars was heavily influenced by it:
