Few questions from new player

Just trying out the game for the first time. Played through the tutorial and thought I'd install some visual expansions. Tried Ambience Collection, but it fails to load because "Camera Drones" was not installed. Tried to download it manually but the link seems broken.

Another problem I have is when going fullscreen via F12, it goes across 2 screens. I have multiple screens 3, sometimes 4. It works ok in windowed except that I'd like the mouse working (although I intend to get my Thrustmaster going with it).
edit: Just tried F12 again and it scaled to the 1 screen fine.. go figure.

On a side note, when I first tried to register, it said "you cannot use that email address" or similar. I had an alternate one to use, which worked ok, but it was still a bit strange.

Any help appreciated.

Welcome aboard - there's currently a problem with Camera Drones, which I hope will get fixed soon.

Hi duke_meister, welcome to the boards! Someone technical will be along in a bit to help with your queries. On the email address issue, you may have run into one of the filters we have to slow down the tide of spambottery. If you'd rather use another email address, PM me and I'll set it up.

Hi and welcome. Good to know that your fullscreen problem seems to have resolved itself. If you are on Windows, the game is supposed to always start on the primary monitor and use the monitor where the application window is located at to go fullscreen on. We have tested it with multiple two-monitor setups, but I don't think that it has been tested on any setup with more monitors than two.

As for mouse working on windowed mode, you can edit the file .GNUstepDefaults, located in the <OoliteInstallDir>\oolite.app\GNUstep\Defaults folder using Wordpad or any text editor except for Notepad and add the line

Code: Select all

"mouse-control-in-windowed-mode" = YES;
in the section named "oolite". Additionally, if you want the mouse to be locked inside the game window when you play on multiple monitor setups, you can add also in the same file and section this:

Code: Select all

"grab-mouse-on-mouse-control" = YES;
If you are on a non-Windows system, let us know and we will try to do our best to guide you specifically for your platform.

Thanks for the welcome and all the help. Looking forward to getting the camera drones functional. I'm just after a basic visual boost for now but the tip seems to be to go vanilla for a while at least, so I'll do that.

I think the monitor thing was perhaps my misunderstanding but I'll check it out (might even try a 3-monitor spanning setup, will report back how it goes).

re the email, filter thing sounds reasonable, no real issue.

edit: forgot to mention originally but my latest.log was reporting lots of missing sound files (that was before adding any expansions) but sound seems to be working ok now and I can't see them in the log file any more (assuming it recreates on each run?).

Thanks for that. I'm on Win10.

@duke_meister: Camera Drones is now up and running in the OXZ manager.

PS: install Random Ship Names - an excellent immersion aid.

Hi, another relatively new player here - posted in another thread (about addons for beginners I think), trying to get an optimum set up for my Sons who are Manic Mine(crafte)rs though I am also immersed in the ooniverse now!

Just tried to install the Addons for beginners again - and this time got a failure on Combat Simulator - which seems to be the same issue as we had earlier with Camera Drones - i.e. its not there right now...

<cheers>

Aye... another of cim's which has probably been mis-transferred.
