A game so good that ...

Driving home and thinking about games that reach the exulted category - good enough to buy the computer to play it.

* [EliteWiki] Elite on BBC micro was in that category.
* No Man's sky - Will it entice me to buy a PS4?

Any other nominations come to mind?

I think Gran Turismo has probably shifted quiet a number of PS2/3/4 units in its time.

I doubt there's anything that could entice me to buy a PS4 (even if I could afford one, which I can't). As for NMS - there is something about the pics I've seen that doesn't grab me, something almost mescaline-like. Not that I dislike mescaline - in fact, I was rather fond of it, back in the day!

No Man's Sky will also be available on PC through Steam, GOG, and a couple other places. I'm tempted to get it as it has been confirmed it will be fully playable in offline mode as well.

Who knows... perhaps it was? Even MS was forced to rename its SkyDrive!

It's (almost certainly) not a matter of Sky legally owning the word "Sky" - but it will be a matter of Sky owning enough money and lawyers to make life awkward-to-impossible for pretty much anyone, for pretty much any reason, if they want to. So the game developers will likely have had to make some ritual obeisances, acknowledged Sky TV as overlord and the True Owner of the Word, etc. etc.

Nothing would have been tested in a court - to do so would probably have bankrupted the developer, anyway - but it positions Sky TV up there in the global multimedia world as a menacing presence and keeps everybody nervous: anyone who was considering actually infringing on Sky's patch will know that they would have a fight on their hands. It's the corporate equivalent of dragging a branch and hooting.

Cheers, Big D... I now have this ghastly mental image of Rupert Murdoch dragging a branch through the undergrowth and hooting!

The more I see of corporate lawyers, the more I think of the B-Ark - if only!

So many great quotes from THHGTTG - but I've always liked this one:
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.
