Visiting the Prodigal Suns Systems

I was looking to pay the Prodigal Suns system a visit. Must be kinda lonely there!
Wondered what it was like, and if anyone had been to the system. Also trying to get there seemed a bit tricky too!
Guess I could resort to an OXP, but wanted to see if there was any non OXP methods?

You can get there with a galjump from G2 (after changing default galjump behaviour), but leaving is problematic - you'd need to be very lucky.

The post

, on isolated stars gives some clues, and interesting debates. As you say, maybe an issue getting stuck in these systems!

I believe Switeck has a complex way of reaching them using multiple misjumps, but that needs extra fuel, so a hack (or an OXP) would be required.
Why they were named the Prodigal Suns has always puzzled me though - makes no sense.

It's a play on the story Jesus told in the Bible about the Prodigal Son. The story is also known as the story of the Lost Son, so perhaps it's that the two stars are lost or away from the rest of the Galaxy.
The system seems a good one to try and visit. I might try and download the explorers OXP pack. That also looks quite a good addition.

I get the biblical reference, but there's a difference between prodigal and lost... a play on words indeed.

Certainly is a difference. The biblical character spent his inheritance wastefully and only when it was gone did he find himself lost.

As the person who came up with the title (I think), my primary consideration was A) that it sounded cool. Then there was B), I assume they have "wandered off" (they're not lost: everyone knows where they are) – that at some point they were part of the Co-operative but stellar drift took them beyond the 7 LY limit - and maybe they'll come back some day (the Return of the Prodigal Son is a painting by Rembrandt).

Ah yes, I see. I wasn't involved in any naming on Clym's vector maps - before my time.

That was one of the most interesting times in oohistory. I was partially involved in it. I was the person who came up with the space ways.

I like that 'wandered off' explanation.
These 2 planets almost scream "OXP me"
. So that the destination becomes worthwhile.

I have been a bit prodigal myself, gone in search of fortune and wealth, attracted by two parcel deliveries, down to the left side of Galaxy 3.
Serves me right, had my Shield Boosters shot to bits, at least it wasn't the Military Shield Enhancement.
Anyway back in "The Inner Reach" region and repaired my ship at TL14 - Teedus. Thankfully the Engineers were able to put the ship back together. Integrated Targeting System now fully functioning.
So already to get to Atlaar or Ditere. just need a cunning plan now.

A great moment, deeply appreciated. For it made it more, much more.
You have to understand that Elite was at best a brilliantly coded basic game for its time.
Us lesser mathematicians (a decade or two later) wished to bring our skills to the art and in honour of Elite.
I like, and make "step back data". So I made a way we could visually understand the 8 maps of the galaxies of Oolite.
It is always wonderful to find the unexpected, and the 8 were quite frankly breath taking. I tried to take that beauty and make it real, for future players.
My intention was not to stick a flag in ANY part of the 8 and say this is MINE! Yes, I and many of us saw pattens that could not be ignored. We found eddies of order or chaos and named them accordingly as any space-fairer might.
When it comes down to it. We love this story. We WILL make it as big as it can be. It is an old idea. Then so are chairs, you still park your ass on them.
