Old Jamison

Post by Alex »

Having given up trying to restart the Assassin mission. Can't seem to get rid of previous reputation for it.
Decided to start from a new Jamison.

Gave up trying to go straight to Zaonce after 5th attempt.
So many baddies waiting at jump entry, I never got time to count them before 'Press Space'. Every time!

Was it always that hard to do??

I don't remember it as. Though I haven't played a Jamie since first downloaded OO 1.65

And was the Cobby3 always so slow?

Docking at max speed and thinking WOW.. cumon for hevens sake! Get a move on!

So for New Jamisons;
My first priority above all else is Fuel Injectors :D

I use my old well off cmdrs regularly as test pilots, while I regularly start over from scratch.

Apart from the fun being far from having an ironass, you have to adopt different strategies to survive and make a living with the limited resources you have. I am always astonished how dependened you get on some top shelf equipment to be present. :-D

Ye your not wrong about missing the bells and whistles my Caddy has.
Still hitting buttons to activate stuff my wee Cobra just doesn't have. And saying "WTF" when it doesn't happen.
Though must admit it is a heap of fun starting over.

To all they Pirates "Wait till I get me Injectors installed!"
You'll see what a wee Cobra and a pulse can do. "Evil laugh diminishing into the night"

:D

What I definetely have learned were various evasive maneuvers. One time I had I think three pirates/assassins dangling on my engine trails on injectors, when I ran out of fuel, missiles and aegis was still a way off.

And it's kind of a thrill jumping into a system and wondering if those yellow dots are only out there to get you. ;-)

I recently came across this video on YT, showcasing a Jameson going one vs many against a pirate group. I am putting this here, because it shows what kind of skills one must develop in order to survive as a new pilot. If you watch it, you will see how the author uses continuous evasive maneuvers, making each shot count, trying various different tactics, even using ramming when possible, to weaken the opponents.

I believe part of the feeling of achievement Oolite offers comes from realizing that all this becomes a little bit easier each time you add one more component to your ship, until you get to the point where you can take a group like the one in the video within a couple of minutes if you are good (but can still be killed, so watch your back!).

Not bad... but why didn't he zoom the scanner?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I rarely do it while fighting - only if I try to scoop up a cloud of cargo pods or if I try to maintain a neat formation with a NPC convoy. On reason is that you can't do the zooming quickly: There is an artificial delay if you want to hit the "y" key (the "z" key on English keyboards) more than once. So if you quickly want to change from 1:1 to 1:4 or 1:5, you have to wait and to wait and to wait, and that's not what I need during battle. And secondly, I tend to forget to reset it to 1:1, and that can create some nasty surprises...
"You wouldn't kill me just for a few credits, would you?" – "No, I'll do it just for the fun!"

I do zoom as I fight, just to avoid losing track.

Zaonce is a nightmare to jump straight to. Better off starting with the Leesti-Diso runs.
The act of talking b*ll*cks whilst waving one's arms about wildly is referred to as testiculation.
